Left-Wing Hates America, Says Author

CNSNews.com) - A conservative author lashed out against the militant Left Wednesday for celebrating America's vices and downplaying her virtues. "In other countries, you have governments and people that inflate virtues of a nation but downplay the vices. In America, it's just the opposite," said Daniel Flynn, author of "Why the Left Hates America: Exposing the Lies That Have Obscured Our Nation's Greatness."
Flynn, who serves as the executive director of Washington-based Accuracy in Academia, said the Left would like the world to believe that America stands for the "slave master's whip;" the 1968 My Lai massacre in which American soldiers slaughtered a village of innocent Vietnamese civilians; and the fatal beating of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old homosexual student.
But most Americans have a different perspective of their country, he noted.
"They view things like the soldiers sticking by Washington through the winter at Valley Forge; they view the Thirteenth Amendment; the promise at Ellis Island that immigrants coming through there see; Edison turning out the lights; Lindbergh touching down at La Bourget (Paris); the soldiers storming the beaches at Normandy," he said. "That's the America that we all know."
But instead of accentuating the positive aspects of America, Flynn said the Left chooses to promote an anti-American ideology and agenda, an influence that has gained prominence on college campuses across the country.
"It used to be on the campuses that the folks who would be honored were people who helped build this country, people like Washington or Lincoln or Jefferson," he said in his speech at the Leadership Institute in Washington. "Today, the folks that are being honored are people who hate this country, who try to destroy it."
Flynn chose his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, to illustrate his point. He said the college's 26-story library is named in honor of W.E.B. DuBois, the controversial founder of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).
"DuBois was a guy who renounced his [American] citizenship; who went to Kwame Nkrumah's Ghana and lived there for the last few years of his life; joined the Communist Party; and when Stalin died, eulogized Stalin as a 'great and courageous man," Flynn said. He added that DuBois was eventually kicked out of the NAACP for his advocacy of racial separatism
Flynn said he could understand why a communist country would want to honor DuBois, the way former Chinese Chairman Mao Tse-tung did in 1959, but objects to the "several hundred" schools across America that have named buildings and institutes after the anti-American, black communist.
Diversity Double-Talk
"The left talks a great deal about diversity, but the diversity that exists on college campuses is a diversity where you have a faculty that looks like the United Nations, but thinks like a San Francisco coffee house," Flynn said.
For example, he said the Left hates Christianity's influence in American society because it is an "intolerant" religion.
"But if you look at America, people of all faiths can practice their religion here," Flynn said. "You're not going to be able to practice your faith in a lot of places outside of western civilization."
Flynn said the Left also scorns America for being a xenophobic and racist country. However, he said those claims could be easily rebuked.
"From 1820 to 1930, we took in 60 percent of the world's immigrants during that period of time and today we take in more immigrants than we did at that time," Flynn said. "How does the Left explain the fact that every decade you've got tens of millions of people trying to get into this country, and most of these folks are people of color?"
Blame it on America
Prior to John Walker Lindh's capture in Afghanistan, Flynn said the so-called American Taliban sent an email to his mother that questioned her loyalty to America. "I really don't know what your big attachment to America is all about," Lindh wrote. "What has America ever done for anybody?"
To start with, Flynn said, America has given more than $500 billion dollars in aid to foreign countries since World War II. "This is roughly $500 billion more than the rest of the world has given us," he noted.
Yet, Flynn said some anti-American recipients of U.S. foreign aid refuse to acknowledge America's tremendous outreach efforts. Instead, some of those struggling nations express their gratitude by burning the American flag in the streets and chanting, "Down with America," sentiments that he said are often expressed by the Left in America.
But Flynn said the most blatant examples of the Left's "blame America" philosophy arrived in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
"Some on the Left celebrated the attacks, others justified it or gave reasons why the attacks happened ... basically, to put the blame on America," Flynn said. "They didn't do any critical thinking, they just blamed America."

The "big picture" view of America is a nation with a mixed past but a promising future. And ultimately a nation that has done far more good than harm.

I wonder if those Haitian boat people who poured into Florida last week "hate" America.
Seriously, since this hate America crowd consists mostly of liberals, they are hurting the Democrat Party image. And with vows to challenge Bush even more strongly next round, Democrats will alienate even more people. Not that I mind, other than it's very harmful to our image worldwide and also very divisive.

The left in America simple consists of that portion of the country that is mentally ill, and a few here and there that exploit them for person gain.

"This is roughly $500 billion more than the rest of the world has given us," he noted.id be willing to bet that its FAR more than that. we're getting numbed to the reality ("a billion here, a billion there...."). surely, there's documentation somewhere re:the actual amount....and, does this figure include the nation-re-building of japan, and efforts to repair germany, east AND west?
using the actual larger amount may have more impact.....oops, REALITY doesnt matter to RATS, forget about it.....my bad
To: 1john2 3and4
I'm pretty sure it includes the Marshall Plan, which was about $10 billion. The foreign aid budget is loudly attacked, but seldom talked about in detail. It's a vanishingly small amount of money compared to the social welfare programs we pay for.

I agree with Bill. They want to do more of what lost them votes. That is the classic definition of insanity, i.e., doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
Let's see, is there any way we can help them?....

The only reason the Democrats won in 1992 was because they managed to convince enough folks that they weren't rabid liberals anymore. Now they're working overtime on doing so.

That amount does not even reflect the billions in war debts and reparations that other nations owed us that we never ever tried to collect. We could bankrupt France, Great Britain, Germany, Russia and Japan if we ever wanted to, but we are better than that. The world has a short memory. It's time for us, as conservatives to re-educate the American public about the last 60 years. So the mistakes of the liberals can be erased, and communists who supported mass murders like Stalin, namely W.E.B. DuBois, are properly expunged as a hero, and remembered as a villain, which is what he was.

I think there is a Law of The Universe called "build 'em up and tear 'em down".
While we were a growing country, "the rest of the world" seemed to have a much better opinion of us, up until the Vietnam war.
The left and other America-haters hate the USA for the same reason as why people hate Microsoft. It is a huge power that everyone has to live with. It's easy to blame.
Being the biggest, it doesn't get much sympathy. It has to do everything absolutely right, and even then it will get criticism. It's like a giant being pestered by a thousand ants.
The giant has to step carefully but its feet are just too big, and sometimes one of the ants gets stepped on.
The rest of the ants cry bloody murder and put the giant on trial. The giant may have even saved millions of other ants, but it doesn't matter, he was careless and foolishly killed that one ant.

i have used this at times to illustrate the numbness, and to bring to mind what the failed socialist agendas are costing us, not to mention the immeasurable social costs (abortion and on and on and on).....counting one number per second, (start fast, cause the numbers get big, and take longer to pronounce), how long would it take you to count to one million? especially illustrative if you count for 12 hours, and eat/sleep 12 hours.....
a billion? then, a trillion? outstanding yes?
so when i see "500 billion", im automatically thinking; "half a trillion"....its good for the "visceral" part of the message.

This will be even harder to do than you imagine, in my opinion. The young are being indoctrinated by the poison the author mentioned and it is pervasive. Books like "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn are atrocious garbage but are routinely assigned. [I am only half way thru this monumental leftist/communist rant because its all I can do to keep from ripping it to shreds.]
The problem is that we will have raised a generation who ONLY know what the Left teaches. The memories of WW2, the Revolution and even the meaning of the Civil War will be lost because no one is teaching them. Instead, America will be viewed as just another country, certainly nothing special. That too is an objective of the Left because it advances the proposition that everyone is just as important as everyone else[part of the one world theme.]
somehow, we have got to reverse this but I do not know how to do it. Even Bush falls into their trap by urging billions to be spent on education. The problem is that we will spend the billions to teach that America is evil. We will teach our children to hate this land with our own money. How sad; how sad.

It's funny you should mention education. There was a discreet little "leak" this morning about Jeb Bush's plan to deal with the Amendment 9 debacle here in Florida. This amendment limits the class size for students in "public" schools. We've now heard that his "devious plan" (as McLoser called it) is to go full force with vouchers and actually pay for students who are low income and stuck in "overcrowded public schools" to go to private schools instead of building new public schools and adding more NEA administrators and teachers to the dole. If this is true, it's brilliant. It would be the logical move and help re-educate the young skulls full of mush away from the corrupt NEA socialist agenda.

My 25 year old cousin was murdered in the WTC attack for the crime of going to work that day. The elec. co. meter reader who came to my house the next day told me it was our fault. As I helped him off the ground, I told him his broken nose was his fault and I would be glad to explain it to him further. He said no further explanation would be necessary and left. Needless to say, I have a new meter reader and never heard from him again. While I regret having struck the man, it amazed me how pervasive this sort of thinking was and is, in NY of all places.

Yup, half a trillion...across more than 50 years. That averages out to $10 billion a year.
We spend half a frickin' trillion a year on truly stupid stuff--in other words, at 50 times the rate we spend money on foreign aid.
Let's focus on this nick we got while shaving, and ignore the blood spurting from the stump where our arm used to be...

Even Bush falls into their trap by urging billions to be spent on education. I'm not convinced "W" is on the DOE bandwagon, although we began to hear rumblings about better funding for the DOE not long after inauguration. It doesn't follow his strong assertions during the campaign that control of pulik skools belonged at the local level. We need to follow this apparent contradiction closely. There must be some underpinnings there we don't see....like the NEA???
The problem is that we will spend the billions to teach that America is evil. We will teach our children to hate this land with our own money. How sad; how sad.
True enough if we don't defund the DOE. Even then the RATS will need to be removed from the local school boards and state DOE's. The slime is everywhere!

What these people hate is
One nation under God and all that that stands for. And why didn't we hear the carping from these God haters during Bent Willie's reign of terror? He carried the banner for this
One nation without God bunch. A Godless hero to his pitiful, Godless followers!
I absolutely believe God heard our prayers for His intervention on Nov 5. We can also petition Him to bring along, kicking and screaming, these America haters also. If we care for our country enough to ask His intervention once again, we will have our country back. The pinkos will be a footnote in an otherwise glorious history.

Those billions will be going to local schools. The "standards" will be developed by educators...the very same ones who have given us the hate America first campaign. I could be wrong, but I have NOT heard that there will be any sort of ciricculum review to go along with the federal dollars. Item: In Tx, they want to rewrite the history to say that Tx was stolen by the americans and that the Alamo was a great Mexican victory. True to an extent but what of the bravery of the Texans? Item: In NC, in 4th grade social studies books, almost 1/3 the book was given over to the history of the Cherokee and their royal screwing and the importance of the underground railroad. Notable? Of course. But 1/3 of the history of the state? Me no think so.
Its all well and good to be for better education. But after the untold billions spent[state, local and now federal], in addition to having kids dumber than posts, they also have a distinctly warped sense of this nation and the principals it holds dear.

Let me tell you how it happened. I'll never forget watching the smartest American conservative's television show on PBS back in the 1970s, when his guests (plural, as it happened more than once,) reported that the Soviets targeted Western universities with their recruitment and propaganda efforts.
And the smartest American conservative would chew on his pencil, lean way, way back in his chair, and summarily and eloquently dismiss such concerns with a remark to the effect that the dumb Soviets overestimated the influence of academia on American culture, politics and life in general.

The left and other America-haters hate the USA for the same reason as why people hate Microsoft.
Don't be an ass. MicroSoft is a business. It's objectives are far different than a governments and thus, gets judged differently.
The US tolerates opinion and encourages freedom.
MicroSoft's behavior is anything but tolerant.
A very stupid analogy. One that ignores the basis of our political system and the principles of FREE Market economics.

I could be wrong, but I have NOT heard that there will be any sort of ciricculum review to go along with the federal dollars. My hope is this; that "W" makes good on his promise of ceding control back to the local level. And that locals will once again take an active role in their local schools. That's a big if, but IMO one of the primary reasons for lack of participation on the local level was due to federalizing and NEAing the curriculum. One size fits all has not and will not work, because it tends towards the lowest common denominator. That's OK for RATS, but of course it only serves the interests of RATS.
Gotta run for now; will check in later...

Actually, what MicroSoft does is inimical to Free Market Economics as espoused by F. A. Hayek and Friedman, two of the greatest Free Market Economists this country has ever known.
They both hold that monopolies that limit choice are bad for free markets, akin to Socialist government control of resources.
You seem to be telling me you know more than they do. I'm impressed.
Please explain why limiting choice and eliminating competition is good for free markets.
