One in six Russians would leave the country if October Revolution took place today - poll
MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Russian citizens have expressed mixed ideas about what would have happened if the 1917 October Revolution had not taken place. According to a poll, about 26% of the respondents suggested that other extremists and adventurers would have come to power, bringing even more woes to the people.
Some 22% of those polled said that the Romanovs (the Tsar's family) would have ruled the county again, while another 22% suggested that Russia would have embarked upon a Western-style democratic path.
Some 14% said that the country would have collapsed and lost its independence, while 16% were undecided.
The poll was conducted by the All Russian Center for Public Opinion Studies among 1,600 Russian citizens at the end of October.
About 33% of those polled said that the October Revolution gave an impetus to socio-economic development, 27% suggested that it opened a new epoch in the history of the Russian people. Another 18% of respondents said that it slowed down the development of the people, another 9% said that it was a catastrophe, while 13% were undecided. [RU EUROPE EEU EMRG POL] tm rm
Growning up, my grandfather would tell me stories of the horrors of the revolution. If these people have any sense, it would be alot higher than 1 in 6.
