[history]
November 8, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Flashy liberal California Rep. Nancy Pelosi yesterday emerged as an early favorite to become the new leader of House Democrats - bolstered in part by strong backing from New York lawmakers.
The wrestling match burst into the open yesterday as Pelosi and Rep. Martin Frost, a moderate Democrat from Texas, each claimed the right to succeed outgoing Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, who announced he was quitting the post.

"Under congressional rules, Democrats will hold a secret vote Thursday to choose their leader for the 108th session of Congress, which begins in January." The old Congress selects the leaders for the new Congress? What if they had all been defeated? Doesn't make sense.

The party caucuses select the party leaders in advance of the new Congress.

Pelosi as House Minority Leader...
The only way I'll be able to keep from finally gloating is the pleasurable thought
that she will in turn give even more power to her fellow travelers...
and drive the Democratic jalopy right over a cliff...

If she brings out the certifiable kooks. wackos, and loonies, I can see some remaining conservative Dems switching over to the GOP. Go Nancy, go!!! :-)

I just stare in nearly utter disbelief as the Dems appear to be fulfilling their death-wish, nominating a SF-based multiculturist who votes against national security. I guess the dem's Marxist political strategy handbook says it will work, and that the masses really long for solidarity with Islamicist terrorists.
The only thing more satisfying would be seeing Hillary's head explode the next time she stands up to address the Senate.

On the plus side for the Dems, they would have a lock on Massachusetts and Illinois for the next election cycle.

As an indicator of just how out of step Nancy Pelosi is with mainstream America, consider the fact that back in July of 2000 she co-signed a letter to Bill Clinton requesting he resign his honorary chairmanship of the Boy Scouts because of that organization's stance on gays.
I think a number of conservative Democratic congresscritters in the southeast might just jump ship if Pelosi becomes their "leader".

We worked hard to get rid of Cynthia McKinney here in GA. I've been reading up on this gal for the last couple of days, and I'm convinced she's just a slicker, whiter, toned-down Cynthia McKinney. I can't imagine a "leader" more out of touch with the American mainstream.

Don't get complacent. We must keep the war on terrorism alive for the next 25 years...

A bit of trivia, FWIW...
Ms. Pelosi is the daughter of former Baltimore mayor Tommy Delassandro (sp?) and very much the product of the (former)People's Republic of Maryland.

Pelosi as House Minority Leader... This will be good for the GOP, but it will not be good for the U.S.

Don't be so quick to see this as a victory for Republicans in the Dems seeming self-immolation. On the left and east coast there are a lot of working women who could easily be manipulated by the themes Pelosi will enjoin. We are graduating legions of the future feminists from our public schools, and we have ripe pickings in illegal aliens here who will be delighted to hop on the handout bandwagon, because they have been told it is proper and theirs to ride. In a continued economic downturn others will join the Democrate handwagon to hell. She can put together a coalition that can plague us, and gun owners and pro-life activists will not be enough to fend this coalition off. Remember the map, states like California, Florida, New York, New Jersey count for a lot of electoral votes, and there are a lot of working mommies there who are beleaguered, tax stressed, and brainwashed. The demos have more to be hopeful for then most of them realize. Although Hillary has a pretty good idea. V's wife.
