I hear the area has changed alot in the last 5 years. I'm sure it has. I haven't been back there for 30 something years. I probably would not even be able to find our old neighborhood or my High School. LOL!

Thank you, mtngrl, for joining us in honoring our Veterans today. You are one of the most dedicated patriots I know. I thank God for you and the entire Fresno group. I know no finer group of people. :-)

Hi, daisy - wish I had more time to spend here today. Thank you, and again I want to say thanks to Lori, for furnishing the text of the thread and that beautiful red graphic of IowaJima - sure made my work easier! :)

(there's a great version of this song in Black Hawk Down) I believe it to be a fitting tribute to veterans on this day
The Minstrel Boy --Thomas More
The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone
in the rank of death you'll find him
His father's sword- he has girded on
and his wild harp slung behind him
'Land of Song!' said the warrior Bard
'Though all the world betrays thee,
one sword at least thy rights shall guard,
one faithful harp shall praise thee'
The Minstrel fell but the foeman's chain
could not bring his proud sail under
The Harp he loved ne'er spoke again
for he tore it's chords a-sunder
And said 'No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and bravery.
Thy songs were made for the pure and the free,
They shall never sound in slavery'

...is that he not work on Veteran's day...Afternoon, LIR. Tell chads that if he needs some help doing nothing, that I'd be willing to help him. I happen to be a journeyman in that field. :)
Salute to my fellow Vet.
To: Temple Owl
Good morning, Temple. Beautiful and rain don't go hand in hand for me right now- we had so many days in a row I was so anxious to see Mr. Sun again. :)

Thank you, and again I want to say thanks to Lori, for furnishing the text of the thread and that beautiful red graphic of IowaJima - sure made my work easier! :) It was a labor of love, Billie. You know how badly I feel about not being able to contribute more to the profiles that you, daisy and dansangel do, so I am more than happy to have been able to help today.
I have decided to take the day off so that I can spend as much time here as needed to welcome and thank our friends who are posting their messages to our Veterans. I cannot participate in any of the Veterans Day cermonies happening around the country, but I can be here. It is the least I can do. :-)

Good morning, beautiful partner. I know I owe you mail. :(
Plese thank your father and your son-in-law for me for serving to protect our country. I'll say thanks to your husband. :) Thank you, .45Man.
Love that graphic, too.

Afternoon, Undertow, and thank you so much for coming to our thread and for your post about the USS Iowa. You are appreciated and hope you come again. This is a daily thread, and we normally feature a different FReeper each day, with special holidays and occasions being the exception. Come back tomorrow and read about a FReeper you might not otherwise know. :)

Dave, I think you know how much I appreciate your service, but today I will say thank you again - not only for your military service, but for your dedication to your God, your country and your family. You set a fine example to which all Americans should aspire.
To: Billie
Thank you, Billie. Appreciate those words.
Got a few Veteran's Day activities to attend in a short while.
