I agree. Tho the reporter is the first I've seen to admit it was "terrorism", but spins it as "personal." How does he know? Why is the guy flying all around, going to off shore banking spots (antigua), etc.

The guy could have been acting as an al Qaeda supporter, just like the Egyptian Hadayet did on July 4 at LAX. So, even if no direct links to terrorist groups are found, it doesn't mean that he wasn't a terrorist. (However, I am not foreclosing on such links turning up later.)

A P.S. to the implied blame of the military. Muhammad was not a guy who had become so accustomed to military life that he could not be "unprogrammed." It's not clear that he ever killed anyone in combat (though he tried to kill his own brother soldiers), but it is clear that he was a total failure as a soldier. He had already been courtmartialed twice while in the National Guard (how the hell does a guy with a track record like that land in the Regular Army, much less get promoted to sergeant?), and tried to murder fellow soldiers. While I have never known a Muhammad, I did grow up with a guy who washed out of basic USMC training at Camp LeJeune (medical -- heart murmur -- or so he said), who was obsessed with being a tough Marine, and who was thereafter constantly in Marine mode. (And he didn't do any better in civilian life.)

These journalists are barking up the wrong tree. Rather than talking about guys who adapted too fully to military discipline, they have to be looking at guys who failed to adapt to military discipline.

Muhammed seems to be set forth as a leader. However, his military stint and his life does not indicate that. Both Muhammed and Malvo are "followers". We just have to nail down a few more footprints to find the leader of these "followers".

Interesting. One thing I know for sure, any guy who brags he was in "navy Seals" or "special forces" - 99% chance he wasn't. Lots of phonies out there.

Media doesn't much talk about Muhammad's Tacoma Jewish synagogue shooting, do they? Might take them off the "troubled domestic life" story line.
