I've got an audio outtake of June Foray and Don Messick (I believe but it could be Daws Butler, I'd have to check).

They intro the piece as being a simulation of 2 voice actors who no longer dig doing it "normal" so they must each take on a different persona as they grope.

June wants to hear a John Wayne voice while the man asks her to do Porky Pig!

It only lasts about 30 seconds but is bizarre.

How long did Daphne and Fred stay back at the van before going out to investigate the mysteries?

The lead actor, Dwayne Hickman, from Dobie Gillis went on to become an exec inside of CBS.

You probably already know, but The Flinstones was modelled on The Honeymooners and The Jetsons was modelled on Blondie (they even got the voice actress who played Blondie in the movies or radio, I don't recall exactly).

Top Cat was based on Sgt. Bilko (aka Phil Silvers).

I think that Roman Holiday was also based on some other show.

Now, for a visitation to the lowest point of ugliness in the cartoon kingdom...

As long as you keep Archie Andrews and Forsythe "Jughead" P. Jones out of all this scandal I'll be alright. They were the REAL cool ones, even more so than the Scooby Doo gang.

Visualize, if you will, Marvin the Martian and Porky Pig going at it...

What I'd rather visualize is Porky Pig on my dinner table. I never could figure out how he managed to stay alive all those years without becoming chop suey.

Well Elmer confessed to being a vegetarian in one of the 1950s shorts (he said that he only hunted for sport).

But there is no continuity from short to short.

Maybe the WB characters are Jewish. Mel Blanc, voice actor for many of the characters, was.

I don't know who either of these might be/have been, but that sounds like a trippy outtake.

Didn't know that, I thought he was French (Blanc sounds like a French name, unless he changed it). But Bugs Bunny did have a Brooklyn accent, so that's very possible. He certainly was very talented, and made those cartoons successful.

I read Mel Blanc's autobiography. He says that it was very odd that here was Jewish and ended up naming his kid Noel Blanc (White Christmas).

Mel didn't invent all of the WB character voices (Elmer and others were originally voiced by other talents) and he was not the only voice actor in the shorts (he was just the only one who typically got credit) but he did have a talent for performing in different voices with different personalities (written by the staff writers). Some of the voices were affected for the shorts by playing a recording at a slightly faster speed.

Was he the man of 1,000 voices? Maybe not, but it did take WB a number of actors to replace that one man.

June Foray was the Witch in the WB cartoons, Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Natasha, many of the Fractured Fairytale women, etc. She also appears on a number of Stan Freeberg recordings sometimes with Daws Butler (Elroy Jetson, Hokey Wolf, Huckleberry Hound, etc.).

Don Messick, the other guy that I think it could be was Scooby Doo's voice (among others). Does that get us back to one of the conversation threads?

His most famous character was Barney Rubble, besides his stints with Jack Benny and Burns and Allen. I listen to them frequently on old time radio, quite a contrast between then and now humor wise. They could make you laugh without every other joke being sexual.

Superman II

Against a clear blue sky we see SUPERMAN flying at a speed holding a flag-pole so that a huge American Flag streams out from behind him.

432 EXT. WHITE HOUSE - DAY

The camera CUTS WIDE to reveal SUPERMAN approaching the roof of the White House. He swoops in behind the trees carrying the flag and flag-pole, which is attached to a new translucent roof-dome (to replace the dome fractured by the entrance of the villains).

433 INT. WHITE HOUSE CORRIDOR - DAY

We CUT as the PRESIDENT opens the door from his Oval Office and looks out and upwards to the broken corridor ceiling. We see SUPERMAN land on the roof and as he begins to place the new dome in position, he talks to the PRESIDENT. The LAST SHOT is SUPERMAN , the flag still streaming behind him, as the roof is positioned.

437 EXT. SKY - DUSK

SUPERMAN is flying home, the sun setting gloriously behind him. Against this awesome spectacle, HOLD CAMERA as he soars AWAY heading for the horizon, magnificent in his power.

Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird! Is it a plane! No! It's Superman.

The End.

Superman was a Democrat. Then he found out the party didn't represent the interests of people like him. He didn't change his registration, but if he votes at all, it's probably for a Republican. If the Democrats come up with a quota for extraterrestrials, they might win him back though.

Same thing with Batman. He was a Republican, when he thought the fate civilization was at risk, because of street crime and high taxes. Things are cool in Gotham now, and he's more laid back. Democrats like millionaire contributors and so do chicks like Vicki Vale, so he's only too happy to play along. The "lone vigilante" thing was getting kind of tiresome anyway.

Spiderman is a Democrat, but he'll probably outgrow it. Aquaman has to be a Democrat, but if the Flash still has that buzz cut, he's probably GOP all the way.

well, I suppose so, if you mean Freddy dallying with Daphne.
In answer to your question, I do not think they remained behind at the van, if for no other reason than that Velma would viciously defend her perch.

As to the Batman/Superman controversies:
1. Batman was conservative. Bruce Wayne was, remember, mostly a front used to keep inquiring minds from looking too closely at Wayne Enterprises' capital outlays in odd paramilitary equipment. Wayne was the false alter ego of Batman. Wayne appeared to be liberal, but that is only a ruse.
Additionally, the Batman was definitely straight. Robin was a later graft, added to improve the Batman's appeal and soften his image somewhat - he had previously been an amalgam of the Shadow and Zorro, and was exceptionally dark and creepy. The Adam West Batman of the 60's was the ultimate perversion of the original Batman, and came closer to killing DC than any other single thing. This wimpifying trend was reversed (thank GOD) By Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.
One thing I had always wondered about: what is the deal with Robin's color scheme? I mean, Bats could hide in the shadows and move stealthily and unseen, whereas Robin couldn't hide in a cave if pursued by the blind. Can we say "decoy" meant to draw fire?
As to the anti-gun stance. Batman was an extreme pro-lifer. He thought it was best to take down an enemy using non-lethal means, the better to make sure the perp stood before a jury and had justice imposed upon him. And absolutely refused to kill. Indeed, that is a core element in the Batman mythos. I was INCENSED by the first Burton movie, in which the Batman not only killed, but sent the batmobile into a factory full of lethal chemicals and dropped a friggin' BOMB in the midst of a group of thugs - killing said thugs, blowing the factory up spectacularly, and running a grave risk of contaminating the surrounding environment with lethal gasses. The REAL Batman would never, EVER, do such a thing. Batman believed the innocent should be spared, the guilty should suffer a court-imposed sentence, and that he had no right to kill in the course of his vigilanteism. He had no problem with the legitimate police or innocent civilians using lethal weapons against perps if that proved needful. Batman had the means and the motive to do better than that, is all.

As to Superman: I believe he was hetero, but sexually frustrated - see the infamous Niven Doctrine. Additionally, even if one of his paramours was durable enough to sustain his passionate embrace, it would still amount to the equivalent of zoophilia, a perversion the big blue boy scout couldn't possibly countenance.
As to his political stripe, I tend to believe he was conservative as well.

I've often wondered that myself. Like the 'decoy' angle.

I seem to remember early pics of Batman holding a pistol or at least using it as his primary weapon. Or was this from 'Dark Knight Returns'? I'm not doubting his belief in the sanctity of life, just wondering if he wasn't armed at some point.

the only book in which I have seen Bats carry a gun was "Batman: Year One" - a retelling of his early adventures which came out in the late 80's (I think, certainly post-DKR)
I do not believe the Batman was ever depicted using a firearm in the early Bob Kane works.
