I concur...great book. Is it really fiction or a look down the road?

Will the ban include the millions of French rifles already available in near-mint-condition with only minor scratches on the stocks?? I don't know about that. And though some of the MAS rifles from the days of the Foreign Legion, Marine and French Para Regiments' activities in Indo-China, Algeria, and Africa were reasonably well maintained, they came by their scratches and dings fair and square. But they are, as you observe, a good bargain for the price, as well as an interesting historical item.

Thanks for the links. Looks like a great way to restart the collection that was washed away in the last mountain top flood. Honest. Now, if we can get the magazine ban rescinded, maybe someone will offer an affordable alternative to the out-a-sight G.I. surplus units. No way a dozen mags should cost as much as a rifle.
FWIW - In '97, on a business trip to Phoenix, I set aside a few hours to visit McMillan. They showed me a prototype synthetic M-14 folding stock, commissioned by the Navy. Their comments were to the effect that disenchantment with mouse gun performance in Iraq had led the Navy to claim a batch of M-14s for future use. Hope the current numbers mean there's something left over for the home guard.
