She opened the doors in all genres of music for women.

Women these days insist on opening their own doors.

>>And when you pair him up with ol' Keith whats-his-name - the "death warmed over dude" - it gets really scary!

Keith, Ron Wood, I think Billy Preston, and some others did a tour back in '80 or '81 as "The New Barbarians". My friends and I got right up front, on the wall, back in the days of general admission / festival seating. 10' from Keith, and you know what?

He looked like death warmed over back then.

Singers......they come and they go.

........and at the end of the day - they accomplished nothing more than squiggling about the stage, making noise for hangers on that paid handsomely for the right.

I'd bet that classics are still classics in 100 years, whereas that satanic slut will be remembered for flopping on the floor of some long forgotten music awards show pretending to get laid, having sold her soul for fleeting fame and riches.

.........shes added nothing positive to the culture

The 80s was actually the best time I can think of to be in one's late teens/early 20s. No draft, good economy through most of it, Reagan was President (and Clint Eastwood had his own police force, in the words of another icon of the decade) and America was on the rise. Not to mention that Reagan had the support of 2/3 of younger voters. Music wasn't priggishly clean, but lacked the "woe is me" whininess of the '90s.

For all her faults, Madonna was a part of that. Her early songs were excellent. Sure her act was a little "trashy". It sold. Don't we believe in capitalism?

In reality, it was Ronald Reagan who sealed the "decline in morality" of the 1980s by refusing to let the government (specifically the FCC) resume the role of Nanny. Doing this helped seal his support among young voters, which helped him maintain the mandate that allowed him to transform this nation.

Yep, you're right! The 80's had great music AND Reagan in the White House -- ah, the good old days!

"She's a drop of talent in an ocean of ambition."

She is one of the most astute businesswomen in history. Michael Jackson hasn't had a hit record in nearly 20 years, George Michael had a massive hit and then vanished. Madonna is able to constantly reinvent her self and put out hit after hit after hit. I seriously think she will have a platinum album when she hits 60. I don't like her particularly, but I admire her business acumen. Mick Jagger is no slouch, but having attended the London School of Economics, he should know that her talents other than singing are considerable.
