"Choice" Words for Planned Parenthood's Christmas Cards by Kerry Daughtery
Boy were we wrong. Those of us who thought those chuffed up Christmas newsletters -- the ones that always seem to begin, "Well, it's been another perfect year for the Pimpernills. Palmer was named CEO of his company, Polly was elected president of her garden club (if you want something done, ask a busy person!), Palmer Jr. was accepted -- early decision -- to Princeton, and Parker is captain of his polo team" -- were the most tasteless things headed our way in the holiday mail.
Not even close.
A caller this week warned me that something far more vulgar may land in my mailbox. If any of my liberal chums are sending me Christmas greetings this year, that is.
"Planned Parenthood has come out with Christmas cards," she sputtered. "They say `Choice on Earth' instead of `Peace on Earth.' "
"Ridiculous," I replied. "Not Planned Parenthood. They're into condoms, not Christmas. Did you actually see these cards?" I asked dubiously.
"I heard it on the radio," my caller huffed, launching into a litany of what was wrong with them.
I sighed and headed to the Planned Parenthood Web site. Sure enough, nestled among the offerings for such delectables as Milk Chocolate Planned Parenthood Birth Control Pill Packets (75 cents each) and Planned Parenthood Chocolate Holiday Gift Bars ($3) were holiday cards with giant snowflakes.
And the slogan "Choice on Earth" (25 cards for $15). Which raises the question, what on earth are they thinking?
When these guys talk about "choice," they're talking about abortion.
So unless I'm missing something, my caller is right: Planned Parenthood is peddling abortion cards for Christmas.
Did they deliberately set out to offend all of Christiandom?
Did their marketing people made a conscious decision -- like PETA does from time to time -- to undertake an outrageous stunt to raise the ire of every commentator in the country, thus guaranteeing them barrels of newspaper ink?
If so, it worked.
I almost never even breathe the word "abortion." Let alone write it. Till today. But using the message of Christmas to promote this ghastly procedure crosses even the most blurred line of common decency.
For those a little hazy on where "Peace on Earth" comes from in the context of Christmas, it's the Bible. The Gospel according to Luke tells the moving story of shepherds near Bethlehem on that first Christmas, "keeping watch over their flocks by night." Suddenly angels appear saying, "Glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth to those on whom his favor rests."
It's one of those passages we read at Mass on Christmas Eve. And it always gives me goose bumps. Especially when I listen to it by candlelight with my family around me and the magic of Christmas and incense in the air.
So if anyone is keeping score, put me in the column of people profoundly offended by Planned Parenthood's perverse paraphrasing of Scripture.
That said, they have a perfect right to say what they choose. Just as the rest of us have the choice to be repulsed by their antics.
If it's smart, Planned Parenthood will go back to condoms, and leave the Christmas cards to the pros.
Like Hallmark. And the Pimpernills.

It's obvious that Ms.Daughtery is not an ardent pro-lifer, but in my experience that's how the vast majority of americans are: against abortion, just not too much.
The "beauty" of these cards is that they may open people's eyes to the reality of what Planned Parenthood stands for. It is not a charity, as many people seem to believe, but a business based on blood and guts... of innocent unborn babies.
My first reaction when I read the article was Romans 8:28 ...we know that all things work together for good to them who love God... God will use this evil and bring some good out of it.

Do you have an email address for Planned Parenthood where we can do some freeping???

Bill O'Reilly had that Ireland woman on his show the other night, discussing these cards. She actually said that she thinks Jesus would have been "pro-choice" because Christmas is all about respect and tolerance. (????????)
To: Former Fetus
O'Reilly had Patricia Ireland (I think) and these cards on his show recently. He explained that this was a bad PR idea. He said people would be repulsed by Choice on Earth during a time when Christians celebrate Christ's birth...She was totally clueless-just couldn't quite connect the dots.
To: Former Fetus
Thanks for the post.
O, The irony:
Planned Parenthood's arrogance and spiritual depravity self-exposed by using Christ's birthday to support a NO BIRTHDAY POLICY for America's most innocent children!!
Don't bother finding these folks on their website unless you want to further peruse their sick suggestions to our young people.
Find the local Planned Parenthood in your neighborhood and start a prayer vigil.
Write a letter to your elected officials with a copy of this story and demand that they defund this group.
Contact your local school district and get them out of our schools.

Here it is! From plannedparenthood.org.
These people disgust me. They have one goal, and one goal only, and that is to promote abortion! They are obsessed with abortion.

I thought I could remain calm but I'm sitting here looking at that so called Christmas card and I am starting to lose it.
For God's sake! Christmas is celebrating a birth, not the choice to kill.

I don't know how many people work for this lame organization, but it's hard to believe that not ONE person had the guts to say anything about it?
These people are as bad as IRS employees, just do a job no matter how improper or immoral it may be.

Who knows, maybe this little stunt of Planned parenthood will backfire big time.
We can only hope.
To: Jennifer in Florida
Oh yes, certainly, Ms. Ireland. Christ would have been very respectful and tolerant of anyone ripping babies limb from limb out of the womb. He would be thrilled that you use the occasion of his birth to further your no-birth cause. (/sarcasm)
To: Jennifer in Florida
A few years back there was actually a nun who stated that Mary was the first "pro-choice" feminist, because she "chose" to have baby!

She would have made a good spokesperson for King Herod and his "choice!" LOL! Respect and tolerance, which is why they had to hide in Egypt! Respect as he walked to Calvary! What an offense. Ignorant minion of satan that one.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD MOCKS BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY WITH "CHOICE ON EARTH" CARDS
http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2002/nov/02111905.html
NEW YORK, November 19, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com)
- "In its never-ending effort to promote the gospel of 'choice,' Planned Parenthood has chosen to mock the Christian faith by issuing a holiday card with the message, 'Choice on Earth,'" said Jim Sedlak of STOPP International (a project of American Life League).
"Planned Parenthood likes to portray itself as a tolerant organization constantly searching for diversity.
But this blatant attack on Christian values -- and Christ Himself -- is just another demonstration of the truly bigoted nature of Planned Parenthood."
Planned Parenthood recently announced the release of its line of holiday cards.
Each card reads, "Choice on Earth."
One card adds, "Warmest wishes for a peaceful holiday season."
"By replacing 'peace' with 'choice,' Planned Parenthood is essentially saying 'abortion on earth,'" Sedlak said.
"This is an extremely repugnant message to be spreading during the Christmas season. Planned Parenthood has insulted Christians and Christianity by deforming a slogan that refers to the Peace of Christ."
Sedlak said in Planned Parenthood's world,
"there will be no children to celebrate the birth of the Christ child on December 25.
There will, instead, be graves and empty playgrounds.
The time has come for Americans to reject this hateful organization.
What more proof do we need of its unacceptable moral principles?
That Planned Parenthood could be supported by even one person in America after this blatant attack on Christianity is beyond belief."

Choice on Earth" Holiday Card Sends Inclusive Message of Individual Freedom
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about/pr/021125_choice_holidaycards.html
Statement by Gloria Feldt, President
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
November 25, 2002 NEW YORK CITY - Recent anti-choice attacks on Planned Parenthood's "Choice on Earth" holiday card are absurd. A very popular greeting card among America's pro-choice majority for almost a decade, it sends an inclusive seasonal message for people of all faiths.
Our supporters are so energized by the vicious criticism of our holiday card that we're printing additional cards and limited-edition "Choice on Earth" T-shirts, which can be ordered at www.plannedparenthood.org/store.
An organization that calls itself STOPP (Stop Planned Parenthood) has generated anti-Christian allegations against the "Choice on Earth" card. The sole mission of this organization, which serves no redeeming purpose, is to shut down Planned Parenthood, America's most trusted voluntary reproductive health organization.
Planned Parenthood believes in every individual's right to make choices and live in peace with our planet and wishes people of all beliefs a peaceful and safe holiday season.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America is the nations largest and most trusted voluntary reproductive health care organization. Planned Parenthood affiliates serve nearly five million men, women and teenagers every year.

I always thought that people who said, "God will not be mocked" were perhaps a little too serious. Not anymore.
Planned Parenthood is into some sick cult stuff lately. Stuff that doesn't make sense.
Little Suzie at 12 can wait in the office for her abortion, confident that she doesn't need mommy or daddy's permission, but she better not breakout her crayons and do a poster for Planned Parenthood's "Roe at 30 Poster Contest" unless she's got parental permission.
These people ARE going to hell and I'm not particularly religous.
To: Former Fetus
Oh my God! I thought that was a joke about the chocolate birth control pills but then I saw them on the Planned Parenthood website:

This whole thing is making me feel sick to my stomach!!!!

I'm certainly not the best Christian, but I'm deeply offended by these cards. Somebody call Jesse.(Oh wait, I'm white and Christian, aw damn, I was hoping to get some money out of this.) Seriously, I'm nausiated just typing this.

"Planned Parenthood believes in every individual's right to make choices and live in peace with our planet ... Peace "with" our planet? Thought the phrase used to be: "Peace on Earth TO MEN OF GOOD WILL" ... Nothing mushy about that ... Doesn't mean "peace" to all, nor does it gift "Peace" to those who desire only evil and more murder. They will have neither: never be granted internal, nor eternal, peace unless forgiven their sins.

A very popular greeting card among America's pro-choice majority for almost a decade, it sends an inclusive seasonal message for people of all faiths. Un-freeping-believable! These ghouls who push baby shredding and fetal tissue harvesting for a wholesale market have the unmittigated cajones to state their message is a Christian' message?... Yeah, that's what they say, people of all faiths! I'll bet it doesn't appeal to Moslems either! Defund these ghouls, NOW! I don't want one damn cent of my taxes going to fund anything PP has its bloody fingers into.

I went to the website and checked this out for myself. The phrases "in bad taste" and "tacky to the Nth degree" can in no way do justice to this. I was once a relativly liberal Republican, but over the last few years things like this have been driving me to a more conservitive outlook. Do these MORONS realize that I'm not the only one fed up with this garbage! Ah well the day will come, and the folks that think up this perverted filth will be reckoned with by a higher power.

These cards will be to Planned Parenthood what the Wellstone "Memorial Service" was to the DemocratsLet's pray very hard that this will be so!! It is not the hard-core pro-abortion folks who need to be swayed, it is those middle of the roaders who are against abortion in principle, but have been bullied into their 'don't want to impose my morality' stance by the media. Maybe something like these cards and the disgusting message behind them that will send some of those people closer to our side!!
