The people found in the truck in Dallas, for example, had each paid $1,500 to $2,000, a huge sum for someone who might be lucky to find a $6-an-hour job in this country.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. These people get into this country, have babies who are US citizens at birth and then milk the system. They get medicaid, food stamps, welfare assistance, free education and job training. They prosper on a system designed to help legal residents and United States citizens. It is time our government woke up and realized that these "people" do not add to our economy...they suck it dry.

Hardly explains the explosion of the Mexican illegal population in New York and the Northeast.

Don't see it here in central North Carolina. The pre-9/11 steady four big intercity buses daily of them on I-85 through my county is still down to near-zero.

Every sign here in Alamance County is that the illegal alien population is steady - or even slightly down. Why come when the industries they gravitate to - textiles, furnituremaking, construction - are in a deep slump due to the current minidepression? Lots of textile mills and furniture factories around here have shut down in past year.

I have seen a tremendous increase in the number of Mexicans in New York over the past year.

You sure see it here in Houston. The illegals are still pushing in here, obnoxious and belligerent as ever, destroying entire neighborhoods, crowding and dumbing down the schools, swarming emergency rooms for their kids' sniffles and scraped knees and filling up the jails, particularly on weekends with their knife fights and drunken-driving murders, etc.

Funny, I thought all those that are invading Texas were hard working family types.

Anything NEW in this? Sounds like Houston anytime in past 20 years!

Hasn't Houston - realistically - been like that for at least 20+ years?

Presidente Fox's drug business has become so profitable that there are not enough Mexicans to haul inventory across the border. Fox has had to recruit non-Spanish speaking Arabs, most Afghans, Yemenis, Saudis, and Palestinians who were vacationing in Cuba, to haul material north. Fox likes them much better because they'll work for almost nothing and don't clog up the wetback support system in the US but just seem to disappear into the crowd.

In spite of all the hype it was given, NAFTA hasn't worked out too well for Mexicans. The elites who get rich off it love it of course.

I don't think that NAFTA has worked very well for Americans either.

Really only about the last ten. Prior to that, there were some illegals, but not nearly the numbers there are now. And back then, the illegals who were here kept a low profile because the INS still deported them and busted their employers for hiring them. And they kept to themselves and their own part of town. Now they're all over the place, boldly dealing drugs in broad daylight (I actually SAW this a few weeks ago) and demanding rights.

It must be working worse though for Mexicans because the only time the border gets shut down is when it's Mexicans protesting NAFTA. I'm going over to watch one of those protests one of these days.

As a result, the journey has become harder as immigration routes have moved from city crossings to the desert. They "put more risk on the immigrants trying to cross the border," Mr. Garcia said.

Mr.Garcia should be dragged out of his office and severely beaten! Not only does this bozo blame the US Border Patrol for the illegal aliens,he tells the lie that they are immigrants! If he wants to blame this problem on the guilty parties, let him blame the elites who run his "mother country" like there were some kind of feudal barons.

THIS is the root of the problem with the illegal alien Mexicans. They ain't coming here because they love the idea of Americans or our freedoms. They ain't even coming here because they don't like the socialism in their home country. They are coming here purely for economic reasons, and they remain Mexicans at heart.

Only the ones that Jorge "Ah jez LUV illegal aliens!" Bush knows.

I really do wish somebody would print out a map showing the way to his ranch in Crawford, and mark it as a good "stop-over" place for illegals heading north, and distribute it all over northern Mexico. I'd love to hear what he would have to say when his SS detail spends all their time arresting them and cleaning up their trash.
