And, on top of all that, American truckers will now be able to travel into Mexico to pick up cargo!

Wow, I'm impressed. And just what do you plan to do with all the drugs and illegal aliens these trucks will bring with them? You think Customs will go through them all? And how do you expect American truckers, many of them suffering economic hardships as it is to compete with this cheaper labor?

No trucker or truck company in their right mind is going to go into Mexico to pick up cargo. The insurance rates would kill them.

Don't believe that con job about the Mexicans getting U.S. insurance and inspections either. They can pick up Social Security cards, drivers licenses, and almost any other documentation from their friendly forgers now -- documentation for insurance and inspections will be even easier to forge.

The identity theft racket is going to get even more lucrative. Won't it be wonderful to have your identity stolen and then used by a lunatic Mexican truck driver who racks up 5 or 6 moving violations and then steals someones elses' id? Kiss low insurance rates goodbye, folks.

Yup. that`s what Bush wants to do alright, destroy America`s middle class. >>>>>>>>>

Bush needs to "come on down" to middle class.....
My teenagers both have a hard time finding part time,
summer time jobs, since most are now filled by our
immigrant invasion of the last ten years.......

In the meantime it's taking both my husband & I working
all we can to PAY our bills/insurance/property & school
TAXES......while my federal taxes go to PAY for FOOD/
HOUSING/MEDICAL etc.etc. for illegal LAWBREAKERS.

Our 2000 census said our hispanic pop. 15% yet my EVER
RISING school taxes are for a schoool that's 40% hisp.
that now makes anglo's & blacks the minority.

At this rate in 10 yrs. it will be a LUXURY for middle
class Americans to have ONE CHILD.

If that's the case, then you haven't seen any unsafe trucks in your neighborhood. Come to S. Chicago/Gary, you'll see them every day. And they are American, for all the rest of you knuckle-draggers.

If unsafe American trucks can't be kept off the road now, why would it make any sense to make the problem even worse by adding Mexican trucks to the problem?

The identity theft racket is going to get even more lucrative.

They just haven't figured it out in Washington that we're attempting free trade with a third world country. Ten years after NAFTA, Mexico's number one and two exports are drugs and illegal aliens. It isn't working, and it never will.

"The *REAL* question, though most conservatives are afraid to ask it, is ... "Who must be buttering his toast for this to be part of the plan?"

Good question.

I have another question . . . . we know he's a "chess player" . . . . how does this open border/illegal alien amnesty/MX truck thing figure into that game. How can this possibly be good for the US.

What is Bush thinking??

A North American political union, as other posters have been suggesting for a long time.

No trucker or truck company in their right mind is going to go into Mexico to pick up cargo.

At a time U.S. truckers had total access to Mexican highways, but of course few drove deep into the south for safety concerns.

And if you consider this...

"Mexican truckers have long opposed the NAFTA transportation provisions, saying their industry could quickly become road kill to larger, better financed U.S. trucking companies. They would just as soon not get greater access to U.S. highways, as long as their American competitors are kept north of the border."

This may be a bone for the people smugglers and merchants as Bush puts out more border patrol looking out for individuals.

"Wink, wink, I'm not really cracking down on you"

sometimes ya just gotta grab the horse by the tail, and face the situation.

After the merger, the old US flag will become an illegal symbol of "hate", "racism", and "xenophobia" - much like the Left's view of the Confederate flag today.

My main concern over this is the safety factor. Will the Mexican trucks undergo the same safety inspections as American trucks? Will the drivers be hauling hazardous material, and, if so, will they be qualified?

As for the economic effects, the independent, owner-operators could be hurt. The major truckers probably won't be effected, since their strength is service and dependablity. Most customers utilize just-in-time ordering, and cannot afford to take risks with foreign carriers.

He who has the Mexican American vote has the White House in 2004.

So you are saying the RATS will win in '04?

Any Republican who does not have the white-male vote, does not get elected to any position.

You can take that to the bank.

My main concern is the package that is about five feet long and three feet wide that sits in the middle of a container.

You bet, as we watch the nightly burning of our flag from foreign soil, and soon, with this continued invasion of millions, that have no respect for anything American, it will be happening here too.

"...but it's going to cost American taxpayers."

Surely you don't expect elected officials to worry about a trivial thing like that do you?
