I just tuned in, so I'm not exactly up to speed. I would like to say that it looks to me that Landrieu has purposely gained weight and toned down her appearance in an effort to not look so much like a white former debutante.

Its determined by the number of seats that are on each committee I think... The Rep have a one seat advantage now so they'd have a one seat advantage for each committee... and then its by seniority within that party... If Landrieu wins it doesn't look good for her... I think she'll be kicked off the all important Appropriations Comm...
