Well, maybe Lott has beginning Alzheimers. He doesn't have to be old to get it. And he sure acts a lot older than Strom.

'rats are known and allowed to be hate-mongering race pimps; the rules are different for pubbies.

You know if Lott hadn't said this the Dems would have found another excuse to play the race cardSure....but what he said was indefensible.
I heard his remark and can think of no way to spin out of it.
Hannity was clueless in his weak defense (Byrd's an exKKK was the BEST he could do)
You must not have heard the actual remark.

I'm no Lott fan, but this is definitely NOT the reason nor time to step down! It will only empower the race baiters.

David is too sensitive to false changes of "racism" What bullshit!
The exact opposite is true.

Too too true.

As much as I would like to see Lott resign, what are we talking about here? Resign as Majority Leader? Resign as a Senator? If he resigns what does that do to the Republican majority? Who fills his seat?

"If there's any one lacking a decent respect for the opinion of mankind, it ain't the GOP here." The Democrats are grinding their own axe, of course.
But Lott needs to be removed from his position as Majority Leader. Not because he's a racist, but because he's an idiot.
This isn't the first time Vacant has said something lame/stupid/farcical in public. If he can't be trusted to make a public statement without embarrassing the party (including us), then he can't be trusted with a leadership post.

Just resign as majority leader. If Missourians want to elect an idiot like him, they can. But he shouldn't represent the national party.

I would leave the issue of remaining in the Senate as a question to be answered by the good folk of Mississippi.

Look...the only reason that this event has any traction at all is because we give it the traction via our kowtowing to the libs. The blacks don't vote for Repulicans anyhow. Just ignore their complaining, don't apologize, and eventually this will all blow over.
The worst thing that any conservative can ever do is apologize to the libs for violating some tenet of political correctness. It empowers them by re-enforcing their taboos.
To: Poohbah
I was thinking... why does Lott have to apologize to race hustlers like Jesse Jackson and Algore? The hell with them. All he should do is tell Americans he said something stupid and he'll be forgiven. I'm telling every one on here this is just like the thing about sex and its time to move on. Lott committed no real crime here except getting history wrong. There are 15 and 16 year olds in high schools across America who don't even know history. Let's give it a rest.
To: BuddhaBoy
"It's time for Republicans to step up and dump Lott, not for being a racist, but for being an IDIOT." There's an echo in here (see my #29)...

Republicans should stop the "Democrats have a racist too!" rhetoric about Robert Byrd and do the right thing. Trent Lott may not be a racist now, but he was at one point, and so was Strom Thurmond.
We are better than them and this weaseling is unbecoming.
To: Jhoffa_
David is too sensitive to false changes of "racism" You mean David Horowitz, the one who bought newspaper ads against slavery reparations in college papers just to stir things up, is too "sensitive?"
David Horowitz is a shrinking violet? LOL

Sorry. This isn't a matter of PC. What Lott said--like it or not--is that the US would be better off without the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

Why are we using the Clinton defense? Why are we using the Clinton defense to protect Trent Lott, when up until now we all wanted him gone?

Agreed. What's funny is the party of racism and Jim Crow standing up as the guardian of civil rights and punishing people for poor judgment. I hope Lott doesn't become a GOP Jimmy The Greek here.
