NOW President Says Trent Lott is Unfit to Lead Senate
December 12, 2002
"Sen. Trent Lott's racist and sexist comments are outrageous and his apology is insufficient," said NOW President Kim Gandy. "The latest revelations offer ample evidence that Lott is unfit to assume a leadership role in the Senate. He should step down as a candidate for Senate majority leader or the Republicans must select someone who appreciates the progress made in this country over the last 50 years."
At Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday celebration, Lott expressed support for the Senator's 1948 presidential campaign, run on the Dixiecrat platform which stood for "the segregation of the races and the racial integrity of each race." Lott suggested that if Thurmond had been elected president, the U.S. "wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years."
Reports now reveal that Lott made an almost identical remark about Thurmond at a rally for Ronald Reagan in 1980. "Feminists who are familiar with Lott's history and his record in the Senate are not surprised by his sentiments. What he sees as a lack of judgment, we see as a lack of character," Gandy said.
Gandy also noted that Lott had a long-time affiliation with the Council of Conservative Citizens, a group known for its extremist racial views.
"Lott not only insulted millions of African Americans last week, but he also offended women," said Gandy. Former presidential candidate Bob Dole offered to introduce Thurmond to singer Britney Spears, with whom he appeared in a commercial for Pepsi, to which Lott added, "Instead of saying, 'Down boy,' you just say, 'Down Strom.' "
"The Thurmond birthday celebration sounds like a toast to the 'good old white boys,'" Gandy said. "Lott clearly yearns for a time before women and people of color crashed the party."
"The people of the U.S. deserve far better than Trent Lott," Gandy concluded. "We call on President Bush to repudiate Lott's remarks insulting African Americans and women and to encourage the selection of a more fitting Senate majority leader."

"Sexist and Racist." I am surprised that she didn't add homophobic in there too for good measure for the conservative bashing trifecta.
I am confused as to how his comments were allegedly sexist? Any ideas?

As usual, the Democrats are going way over the line, and making fools of themselves. Clean up your own house you slimy rats, we will take care of our own problems.
If the rats keep piling on, I may have to change my opinion of Trent Lott as Senate leader. This might wake him up, and realize the level of contempt the party of the wicked have for decent men. Trent Lott is a decent man. Maybe this will ignite the fire in his belly, and turn him into a battle harden leader, who won't play patty-cake with a party that has such vitriol towards him.

there is no way you could call them sexist but If I had to venture a guess it would have something to do with the (R) after his name
but dont get me wrong I know NOW is a non partisan organization /sarcasm

I am amazed that such a statement (however, stupid by Lott) would bring so much news! So what when talking to someone at their 100th birthday. I don't get it.

I am amazed that such a statement (however, stupid by Lott) would bring so much news! I don't get it.It's not about news. This is the democratic policy of personal destruction. It wouldn't matter how much he apologized, it would never be enough. He should admit his serious mistake - compare himself to Byrd - then offer his resignation if Byrd will do the same. Only way I see to end this thing.

Interesting to see that NOW is bringing up the rear in the concerted effort that lib/dems put in place on this matter. It makes sense that they would pull out black leaders first, then move to groups like PFAW, NOW, etc. Always the same players and they are amazingly organized.
I suspect that they have organized the counterpart to Norquist's weekly meeting. The only difference is that the collection of activists on the right don't get together to strategize, it's pretty much informational only. Looks like the activists on the right get together for the purpose of handing out assignments for the week.

The only thing I can think of is that Strom was kinda a lady killer in his old age... Marrying a Miss South Carolina, who was 22, when he was 66 and loving all the ladies. I also know Strom made a comment at his party to the effect of thanking the Senators for the pleasure of serving with them, and their wives.
Maybe somehow Lott's support of Strom was "sexist" to her because we all know, looking at a pretty woman and commenting on her appearance is sexist in the land of the card-carrying NOW nazi-feminist.
This is getting assenine. I am just waiting for GLAD or some other gay-rights group to come out tar and feathering Trent for being a homophobe.

If Lott had been a Democrat and gotten a BJ, the NOW NAGs would be praising like he was a saint - for helping to keep abortion legal of course.

NOW, whose silence was legion on the issue of the rape and abuse of women by the President of the United States, feels compelled to open their massive mouths on the issue of Lott.
WAKE UP, GOP!
The shameless race-baiters, corrupt scam artists, power-hungry bitches, political terrorists and Socialist media are playing you like complete fools.
Guilt-laden, pious wimps in our party think that there is merit to the accusations from this gallery of scum?
Ridicule, counter-attack, destroy their hypocrisy, or perish, fools.

I'm not a fan of Lott. This story, however, reminds me of the actions taken in Soviet Russia. The ecxessive coverage -- surely we have more important issues such as protecting our borders -- is part of another agenda. Remember Rocker? It is to make us hesitate to say anything except what is premitted.

To say that Lott's statement is "sexists" is idiotic. Obviously NOW has lost touch with what is sexism or feminism. NOW's main concern obviously is NOT what is in the best interest of women.
With its focus on country club membership and now this absurd statement, NOW has become the subject of jokes and ridicule. Seems almost as if it delibertely wants to damage the feminist movement. (A couple of days ago Tom Knott had an hillarious column about Burke.)

While I have sincere doubts about Trent Lott (to put it mildly) NOW coming out with this statement means that Trent should stay. Any statements from NOW means one should do 180 degrees the opposite of whatever they are suggesting. Or, ignore them completely.
To: TheRedSoxWinThePennant
Seriously...this self-proclaimed womens's rights organization had no problem with a serial rapist running the country!!! These NAGs are irrelevant. It is only the media who listens to them.
To: TheRedSoxWinThePennant
"Sen. Trent Lott's racist and sexist comments are outrageous and his apology is insufficient," said NOW President Kim Gandy. Who cares what this slug, this dredge, this proof of evolution (for when you look at her, you can see the pond scum and monkey genes in her eyes), has to say?
And as for the President, perhaps the President should rember that it is Trent Lott he will be dealing with, not his buddy teddy 'the drunk' kennedy, as majority leader of the Senate.
To: TheRedSoxWinThePennant
Now is the #1 reason for this attack on Lott! As I pointed out day 1.

You know, Strom has better taste in Girls than clinton (either of them), does.
And it looks like they like Strom too. And it didn't take a state cop or secret service agent's intimidation or force to get them to Strom's party.

Well, the solution is obvious now: The GOP's strategy should always be the exact opposite of what this abortionist man-hating lesbo thinks. End of story. Lott should stay.

I was at a friend's apartment one time...He and his wife had one of those baby monitors...Back then, they all worked on the same channel and you could often over-hear other people if they were operating one...
Se were setting around chatting, the monitor on the coffee table...
All of the sudden we hear a man say..."Get your FAT A$$ off the toilet and fix me some breakfast!"

The RATS are making me re-think my position. The last thing the Rats want is Trent Lott gone, they just want him even more weak than he already is. Don't fall for it, Lott needs to go for the good of the GOP. He's not worth saving.
