Trent Lott was SEVEN YEARS OLD IN 1948. Want to get rid of racist in Congress? Lets go after KKK Bryd, as an adult and as recent as last year, he has shown himself to be a racist. That is far worst than saying something at a birthday party for a 100 year old man.

Ask someone who grew up during Jim Crow how funny it was.

Ask someone growing up with the Crips and Bloods how much life has improved for them. There is no way you win on this issue because Blacks are still exactly where they were 50 years ago and this time it is their own damn fault. They have traded Jim Crow for plantation life in the democrat cotton fields.

Bob... I am not to sure you really comprehend what transpired with the Bush speech. We are talking POLITICS here. Not what Lott said or did.

RobbyS.... We are talking POLITICS here, what Lott said and what Bush said. Not what transpired long ago. The subject is politics. I am not the judge of anyones actions or their character. We are discussing the POLITICS of this affair.

If Lott caused all this hyperventilating just by making a bad joke,

A joke? You call what he said a joke? Whether you consider his comment racist or just plain stupid-- I opt for "stupid"--, "joke" is the wrong word. He wasn't trying to be funny.

And I am saying that Lott is not a good political leader. Just look at how he handled this mess. He gave the impression that he had to figure out why what he said was wrong. This is a blunder as great as Bush's concealing of that drunken driving episode. That almost cost Bush the election. It was not that Bush IS a drunk but that to a large chunk of the electorate he seemed to be a liar--like you know who. Appearances are everything and we are going into the session appearing to be led by a "good old boy" from Mississipi. How does this ring, not only with the blacks but with the white medwesterners, for instance? A good politcian does not hand his arm to his enemy so that his enemy can beat him over the head with it. The simplest way to put this behind us is to put Lott on the backbench.

RobbyS....

Lott should never have been majority leader. I have never liked the man. His fellow republicans put him there and it is their duty to take him out, not Bush, not the democrats or the media. I am interested mainly in the political ramifications, nor racism or whatever. That is not for me to decide or judge.

After eight long years Clinton and friends, I would hate to see everything put to waste. The democrats will now use this race card to the maximum. Too many people look at the man not the politics of the man, for instance, Bush, he made a political blunder in my estimation. If Lott needs to be hung for present or past transgressions, fine do it, in the process do not hand the democrats a club with which to beat us over the head with for two years.

Bush did what he did because Lott was too stupid to do the right thing.

No, it's you that doesn't seem to comprehend.

It IS about what Lott said or did. A smart, experienced politician would never have said things or acted like Lott has the past week.

And it IS about politics. Lott is lousy as leader, this episode is just another glaring example in a series of events which document that.

See if you can comprehend the above - subject, verb, clear thought expressed, lucid sentences.

Now contrast with your postings - sins, firebrand ministers and gibberish.

Please try to make your point without elliptical, obtuse sentences. I really want to understand what you are trying to say.

Wow! If Lott caused all this hyperventilating just by making a bad joke, just think what reaction had been if he had driven a car off a bridge while drunk and drowned a young, female campaign worker.

If he were a more popular Republican, he'd be a hero around here...especially if he weren't Southern. FR has a huge South Bashing gang of morally superior folks who can't get enough of this.
