I wanna know why Ted Kennedy is an "elder statesman" of the Senate while Lott is being crucified. Who drowned as a result of Lott's gaffe? Oh let the Dems rail on about Lott, it will only lead more people to see the skeletons in their closet as well (as happened when they tried to make political hay out of Enron). As far as I see it, it's a win-win for the GOP, we dump Lott as ML, and people once again see the Democratic Party for the hypocrites they are.

Lott has made his own bed. Trent Lott is a millstone around the neck of the Republican Party.

We can cut him loose or sink with him.

I don't even think Lott made a stupid racist statement. I think he had a few drinks at a party and said something that could be construed as racist. And THAT is stupid. So he may be a boob but I don't think he's a racist. At any rate I wish the GOP would play offense on this, not defense. Start pointing out the hypocrisy, start playing hardball. If not, the Democrats will have won a victory and they will think they can do this in the judicial appointments, etc.
