Syria is secretly helping Saddam Hussein to prepare for a United Stated-led attack by smuggling vital arms supplies to Baghdad. What the Syrians are really doing is making a bundle of money selling arms to Iraq at very nice prices. Saddam is in no position to argue price and the Syrians and others in the Middle East realize that this is the last good chance they have to clean up. This is just business (as way better than usual) Mideast style. A few months from now that business will be zippo.
I'm not excusing the Syrians but this is hardly a shocker.

I guess the Syrians thought "The Bekaa Valley Turkey Shoot" was such a hit, that a sequel was in order. :)

Is he really stupid enough to be getting himself tied up in this? Is he getting anything in exchange? If so, what? Has he already been paid?
The last I heard was that Islam planned to take over the world.

It looks dead Well, Hafez Assad did in fact croak 3 weeks after that picture was taken.

The more Syria smuggles arms to Iraq, the more quickly easily the Israeli Army will annihilate Syria when that time comes .....and I'm pretty sure that time is close.Stole the words right out of my mouth. Syria's days are numbered. When Iraq falls, Damascus will be completely cut off from neighboring radical states, and Israel will do the long-awaited honors.

52 Crates on the Syrian Border with Iraq? Silly us and all that concern about our borders! Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Syria supposed to be helping us or maybe they are pre-staging this equipment for us after we invade Iraq! Yeah thats the ticket! The information just hasn't trickled down yet! Sombody is asleep at the switch AGAIN!

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Syria and Iraq have a war pact that has them both launching bio/chem warheads into Israeli cities when our own military action against Iraq appears imminent, and then (Syria) simultaneously launching a ground invasion to take the Golan Heights. Saddam has nothing to lose (he's a dead man anyway), and Assad Jr. is both crazy and stupid.
Depending on how badly Israel was hit by the WMD, they would then undoubtedly launch a full scale nuclear attack against both Iraq and Syria, killing perhaps millions. The U.S. would then mop up Iraq within a couple of days, while Israel does the same in Syria, completely destroying what remains of the Syrian armed forces in short order.
Of course the Palestinians would probably be going nuts at this point, and the chaos would give Israel the perfect opportunity to lay waste to the terrorist strongholds Gaza and W. Bank. The world's focus would be on the nuclear holocausts in Iraq and Syria, so the IDF would be able to pretty much do what they wanted without too much opposition.

Is he [Assad Jr.] really stupid enough to be getting himself tied up in this? Is he getting anything in exchange? If so, what? Has he already been paid? See my post(#32) above. I believe he realizes war with Israel is inevitable, and his best chance is to team with Saddam to attempt to wipe them out with WMD at the onset of our hostilities with Iraq. ....And God knows what other nations or terrorist orgs might also be involved.

In 1991 Syria backed the West: I surmise that in exchange they were given the go-ahead to occupy and totally control Lebanon, their invasion got scant mention in the global press when it happened, nor is the occupation much referred to.
I wonder what price the Syrians are asking this time for their reluctant co-operation?

Syria will sooooo get theirs in this it's not funny. Now, do we waste some of our boys during the excercise or theirs? I say we give them *ALL* (Saudis, Iraqis, Syrians, [insert islamorash terrorist sponsoring state here]) a short warning and then nukes away.
