A man who allegedly tried to steal a car was shot and taken to an area hospital late Saturday.

According to Sgt. Shawn Stringer of the Tacoma Police Department, a man tried to steal a car near the 7000 block of I Street in Tacoma at about 10:30 p.m. The owner reportedly saw the suspect stealing the car, got into another car, chased him down and shot him.

Guy's in big, big trouble if it was. He's probably in big, big trouble anyway, since he chased him down. Unless, maybe, the thief was armed and could be clained to have been shooting at the owner.

As always, if the prep was a brother, the vic is in trouble. Although, my bet is that they were both brothers. Would wouldit accomplish to chase your own car, firing bullets into it? Dosn't seem like a prudent course of action. Unless, I guess, the vic's car also had his large stash of inventory in it.

A murder charge would be appropriate. Attempted murder if the thief lives. This was not self-defense.

From king5.com:

Police don't have any identification on the young, white male who was shot. He was wearing a red jacket, a red cap, and wore a silver ring with a dollar sign on it.

Car Owner Shoots Suspected Thief in Head

ASSOCIATED PRESS and
KIRO 7 EYEWITNESS NEWS
TACOMA -- A man suspected of stealing a car in north Tacoma was in critical condition Sunday night after being shot by the vehicle's owner a day earlier.

The wounded man was at Tacoma General Hospital with a gunshot to the head, hospital spokesman Todd Kelly said.

The stolen vehicle's owner was being held Sunday night in Pierce County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault.

Identities were not immediately available.

An arraignment for the 33-year-old man was scheduled for Monday.

Police spokesman Jim Mattheis said the man came out of his home around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to see his car being driven away. He ran back inside and grabbed a small caliber handgun, then jumped in a second vehicle and quickly pursued.

Witnesses told officers the car owner pulled alongside the other vehicle and fired several shots, Mattheis said.

One bullet struck the young man in the head.

The chase ended three blocks away from the man's home when the suspect crashed through a neighbor's fence and into another vehicle, police said.

I don't think you can run the guy down shooting through the neighborhood... Our theft victim is probably in trouble. Car thieves, however, ought to take notice.
