Of course he's sincere. He'd have to be a complete retard NOT to want that walking screw-up as Leader of the opposing party.
Actually, after Trent got his grovel groove going I would have preferred he go anywhere but back to the senate.
But I'm arguing that Lott is going to stay now because you've been played like a violin and you can look forward to lots of hate crimes, hate speech, hate thoughts and hate inferred thoughts legislation coming out of the senate.
Lott has culpability but so do those who took this opportunity to to join an unholy alliance with the bad guys and dump him for a sentence that was at worst ambiguous and which Bob Dole and Paul Simon have said was benign.
I may be wrong about where this will end but I don't think so.

Every possible downside to him leaving is actually far worse if he stays as Majority Leader. Trent Lott operates contrary to the very principles you claim are served by defending him.

Our desire to see Lott step down [or be forced down] has nothing to do with what Liberals want at this moment. It is a logical and competent political move meant to stop the enemies at the gate. You would give them their own boy sitting right at our kitchen table.

The more savvy Democrats want Lott to be reahabbed as Majority Leader. They know a good thing when they see it.
Why would anyone want to give them two years of soundbites and attack ads in 2004, even as Lott is led by the nose to redeem himself at the expense of party and country?
