Arizona's incoming governor hopes to defuse tensions over vigilantism at the border by inviting all sides to talk it out.
Border Action Network, a Tucson-based human rights group, released a report Wednesday calling newly formed civilian militias law-breaking puppets of national White-supremacist organizations, and it demanded state and federal investigations.
Leaders of the militias countered that they're patrolling the border because the federal government has jeopardized national security by failing to stop illegal immigration.
Border Action Network members delivered the report to state Attorney General Janet Napolitano, who will take office as governor in three weeks.
Napolitano had not yet read the report but wants to reduce animosity at the border, spokeswoman Kris Mayes said Wednesday.
"The best thing right now for everyone is to ratchet down the rhetoric," Mayes said. "The governor-elect would like to call all the stakeholders very early in her tenure for a dialogue to find a solution to this problem."
Napolitano opposes civilians acting as law-enforcers but believes landowners at the border have a right to feel protected by the federal government, Mayes said. Napolitano won't meet with anybody she deems an extremist, Mayes added.
Wednesday in Tucson, U.S. Rep.-elect Raul Grijalva said he will ask the FBI to investigate alleged links between civilian militias and White-supremacist groups. "If you shine the light on the cockroaches, they don't like it," Grijalva said.
Federal authorities in Arizona said they would investigate any group breaking federal laws but would not comment on past or potential investigations.
< /p> Terry Goddard, former Phoenix mayor and attorney general-elect, said he had not seen the report but recognized there's a "potentially dangerous" situation brewing in Cochise County.

Don't look for the Tucson or Phoenix papers to do that, though. Any letters critical of MEChA are immediately countered with a coordinated writing program about how it's just a lil' ol' student group

Yah these scumbag leftists just now notice their is a problem on the border when a group of very concerned law abiding citizens manage to get in the way and threaten to rock the boat. Nevermind the murders, illegal immigration, drug smuggling, gang wars...etc. that has been growing over the years.

The government won't do its job and close the borders so concerned citizens are attempting to do it for them. This governor should be congratulating Simcox and other patriots for their heroism, especially since Arizona is bearing the brunt of the invasion. Instead it looks to me like she is siding with La Raza, MEcha and other treasonous, racist organizations. To the governor if you're reading this, the country is watching you, so consider that should you decide to start attacking these fine, patriotic Americans defending their country.
But now that he will have national coverage, and at least a bit more coverage from the Right, it may come out. We'll see if anyone is smart enough to bring it up. Possibly FNC, but the MEChA thing has only surfaced a couple of times even there.

The FBI should investigate possible links between Grijalva and Brown-supremacist groups or Mexican drug cartels. If the FBI shines a light on Grijalva, he won't like it and he'll run like a giant cockroach.
