U.S. Seen As 'Fortress America'
CBS News ^ | 12/18/02 | Ian Stewart

(AP) Travel executives say the nation's $91 billion foreign tourism industry is in peril because of a growing perception overseas that the United States has become "Fortress America."

In the year after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, 66 million fewer visitors tried to enter the United States, according to Immigration and Naturalization Service figures. And those who did try were sent back home at a higher rate than the year before.

Travel industry executives complain that the post-Sept. 11 security crackdown at airports - especially some widely publicized incidents in which visitors were searched, interrogated and put on a plane back home - has discouraged tourism.

"There is an impression being made that we are creating a Fortress America," said Rick Webster, a spokesman for the Travel Industry Association of America.

INS officials recognize the concerns but say their first priority is to secure all borders.

"California natives are NOT like the weirdos.."

That's funny , because the valley people are real close to being normal. So are northern Califorians (viz., Sonora, Redding, Tahoe, etc).

But the only image heartlanders have of CA is Rodney King, Charles Manson and the frequent LA riots.

Too bad people think CA's only contribution to mankind is gay rights and pornography, huh?

"Oh yeah, NY is like living in back in the 50s. Sure it is, I believe you. LOL! Lets see, your Senator, the Honorable Hillary Clinton, voted into office by New Yorkers, makes my two idiots, Boxer and Feinstien look conservative! Hee Haw. LOL! :o"

Actually, Cobra64 is right--once you get outside the big cities, RURAL NY is a pretty nice place (I know, I've got relatives there). You have to remember, Hitlery is, in actuality, the Senator from New York CITY.

"Richard Nixon."

You won't give up, will you?

But Nixon knew that if he were to receive a quality education, he'd have to go elsewhere, viz., Duke University.

Top that, Jimmy Buffet breath!

"There is an impression being made that we are creating a Fortress America," said Rick Webster

That's a thought. We'll just sit in here forever with our fresh air, fresh water, and fresh ammo.

You need an education about NY: It is a fairly large state with different regions within it. There are the down staters who live on Long Island. Long Island also has a northshore for old money and the Hamptons for new money, and Jones Beach for the rest of us. Upstate includes mostly rural valleys and 4000 foot mountains- its alot like Vermont but not not as self satisfied. Upstate includes 6,000,000 acres of the adirondac nature preserve. Western NY includes Buffalo and Rochester and is on the great lakes and is like living in the mid west.

Next time I'll explain the mysterious system of burroughs that make up NYC.
BTW: Boxer and Fein are much worst than Hillary because they actually believ the BS they peddle while Hillary knows she is a lying sack of shit.
