Check out what I once again heard on the radio
"Trent Lott started a furor by saying the country would've been better off if a segregationist had been elected President".
Even today they are still incorrectly reporting what Trent Lott said. Hard to believe.

Let them try....but I don't think they will. If they do, the pubbies will have the knives sharpened for Byrd.
To: dfwgator
Good. He's the reason we have the majority anyway.
To: BUSHdude2000
Talk about tough.
Bill Frist will be a Majority Leader who can really cut your heart out.

A very interesting way of putting it.
"I was settling some family business."

Radio report just said that Kay Bailey-Hutchison is considering challenging Frist. Oh, dear God, say it ain't so. I can't stand Miss "no witnesses allowed in the impeachment trial."
Carl Cameron is reporting that Lott's son is a Washington lobbyist. The son may get some backlash if Dad quits, so he doubts he will.

bwahahahahahaha! maybe they will elect someone with a spine, and a pair of yarbles.

Lott statement - staying in GOP Senate. First honorable thing he's done in quite awhile.

I'm with you.
Had Lott been a more effective leader, he would have gotten more support. I am glad he is leaving, and doing the right thing by staying in the Senate.
To: Howlin
Gee...what a surprise.

I'm disappointed in the bloodthirstiness of some on FR.Apparently we are in cync with both the president and a majority of GOP senators.
To: TrappedInLiberalHell
yes, he will stay
To: michaelt
We're not perfect, but we are more principled than they are, and have better ideas too.In a way, it is a compliment to us that there is this "double standard." It is as if we (conservatives/republicans) are the adults and they (liberals) are the children. You cannot expect the children to behave. They are still learning. The adults are expected to know better.

Kaye doesn't stand a chance. Frist is the best man for the job.

Radio report just said that Kay Bailey-Hutchison is considering challenging Frist.Oh, please. She's a RINO if I ever saw one...

If Lott has half a brain he'll realize that if Richard Nixon, George Wallace, Jesse Jackson, and even Bill Clinton (after impeachment) can make a political comeback, so can he. He has all the rest of his term, and his life for that matter, to show what a champion of civil rights he truly is. To have quit the Senate would have been really dumb.
I suppose he could start by having an affair with Condi Rice but maybe that's going a bit too far!
To: AppyPappy
.....Lott will not be the only Republican to fall........
He may be the only one to fall in the near future, but rest assured there will be plenty that will be wounded as time goes forward. You don't let the opposition do this to you and not expect them to continue when they are as successful as they were this time. JMO

It's worse-- he's telegenic and can't be painted as a nutjob or a redneck.
Carville will put another trashcan on his head over this. They don't want to run against Bush and Hastert and Frist.
To: GWB00
Lott won't leave because he is a whore and he will be bought. The last two weeks were merely haggling over the price.
