In just the last week, said David Austin, special communications adviser for the centre, about 200,000 more guns were registered, bringing the total to about 5.5 million.

"Reality bites," Austin said in an interview. "So here's reality. Ninety per cent of the firearms owners in this country have licences. Seventy per cent have registration certificates already."

Jim Hill, a 53-year-old former Mountie, said he objects strongly to the licensing and registration systems, but will send in his forms anyway.

Wow. This article makes Canada out to be a pitiful nation of pathetic wimps. Is it really that bad, or is this just a liberal scumbag newspaper trying to nudge the relucants into registering?

Austin is an A$$hole! Deport him to a high crime area in Great Britian and let him get a little "education".

I suspect that the Canadian government is inflating the actual compliance rate in order to try to coax the million plus who have not regestered into doing so. But in any case, there's not enough jail cells to hold those who are defying the government.

This story should be spread far and wide - just goes to show that anyone who believes the government lies and registers their guns will pay the price.

That is EXACTLY right. They do NOT have a clue how many firearms there are in this country and they aren't going to know either. I truly believe their 5.5 million figure is "made up". What else is new for the Liberals? A little lie here a little lie there - shrug, what the difference as Chretien would say? He's a confirmed Liar and so are all the rest of his crew. They can screw themselves!! I know a lot of people who lost their guns just as I have. I don't have a clue where they went.

And don’t forget, you sold them at a loss... There was NO profit to report to the Income Theft Department.

Ahhh... Good point! I don't want the IRS asking to see the line item on my tax return for gun sale profits...

Oh, and BB guns are now illegal for anyone under 18 in Baltimore. Just saw that on the web at CNSNews.

"...Oh, and BB guns are now illegal for anyone under 18 in Baltimore. Just saw that on the web at CNSNews..."

Another good reason not to live there!

If I did, I'd be morally obligated to immediately go out and buy a BB gun for my seven year old.

And Christmas has me a little tapped out.

If police were to stop Muir while he's carrying one of his rifles on a deer-hunting expedition and request his licence, he knows the possible penalties.

Ah, but does the police know the penalties of trying to confront an armed SOON-TO-BE-FELON?
