President's Christmas Message
The White House ^ | 12-25-02 | GEORGE W. BUSH

Posted on 12/25/2002 6:14:48 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

Welcome to the White House.

President's Christmas Message

I send greetings to those celebrating Christmas.

President George W. Bush and Laura Bush stand before the Blue Room Christmas Tree Sunday, December 8, 2002 prior to hosting a reception for the Kennedy Center Honorees. Mrs. Bush is wearing a floor length gown designed by Arnold Scaasi. White House photo by Eric Draper.During Christmas, we gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As God's only Son, Jesus came to Earth and gave His life so that we may live. His actions and His words remind us that service to others is central to our lives and that sacrifice and unconditional love must guide us and inspire us to lead lives of compassion, mercy, and justice.

The true spirit of Christmas reflects a dedication to helping those in need, to giving hope to those in despair, and to spreading peace and understanding throughout the Earth. As we share love and enjoy the traditions of this holiday, we are also grateful for the men and women of our Armed Forces who are working to defend freedom, secure our homeland, and advance peace and safety around the world.

This Christmas, may we give thanks for the blessings God has granted to our Nation and in each of our lives. May the joy of the holidays renew our commitment to working together for a future of peace, opportunity, and hope.

Laura joins me in wishing you a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Considering the thread the other day where we wanted to hear GW voice the name Jesus, this certainly is further evidence. Not only does he say the name, he gets into salvation doctrine.

During Christmas, we gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As God's only Son,. Jesus came to Earth and gave His life so that we may live.. His actions and His words remind us that service to others is central to our lives and that sacrifice and unconditional love must guide us and inspire us to lead lives of compassion, mercy, and justice.

It's nice to live in a country with a leader who follows an itinerant carpenter that
understood that you should "render unto Caesar what is Caesar, and unto God, that which is God's".

We have a secular government, but that doesn't preclude people from making their
sacrifice while in service of the government.
And at the same time allows us all to render to God as our conscience directs us.

I feel sorry for those in other countries/regions without this arrangement...

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet the words repeat,
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had roll'd along th' unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bow'd my head:
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men."

'Til ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

To the name of Jesus Christ -- written, spoken, heard and believed.

Merry Christmas, every one!

I thought GW was afraid to say the name Jesus?

While some of his various holiday messages have been veiled in diplomatic-speak (saying things like "To Christians, Jesus is the Savior and they gather to celebrate his birth/Resurrection etc.), others have not been. This is an example of one that has not been.....and it IS after Sept. 11 (a poster on an earlier thread about this said Bush had less of a spine after Sept. 11 to speak up for his faith). His Christmas card is the first to quote Scripture.

While this is not enough to satisfy conservative Christians (and I am one), it is a huge step from most Presidents and I think we should be thankful that our President is not willing to let the truth be left to the sidelines. He can't preach to us, but he is clearly trying sometimes to express the truth in ways that are not too pushy. I admire that.

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, RW. Where've you been?

I like your choices. Mine are "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" and "Silent Night." There was a thread yesterday (I think) that asked what folks favorite Christmas Carols were...I wonder what happened to it.

In any case, check out post #3, this thread.
