As I have been saying for some time now, Palestine is coming up on the agenda and the evacuation of the settlements, is also on the agenda.

The Israelis will give up most of the settlements for a genuine peace agreement. That much is clear. That much has been clear for the last decade at least. But they won't give them up, and shouldn't, except in the context of peaceful negotiation.

Israel is on board with land for peace. The entire freakin' NON-ARAB world is on board with land for peace. We're all just waiting for the Palestinians to get over their land for murder obsession.

I hope they come around soon. They might not have long. As I have been saying for some time now, the Israelis are eventually going to get tired of waiting and will eventually impose a demarcation unilaterally. When this happens most of the settlements will be annexed to Israel proper, and the Palies will be left with much less than they could have acheived by negotiation. They will have no one but themselves to blame. (Although they will blame the jooos anyway.)

There will be a great whew and cry when the lines to which there will be a roll back, is broached...

Real peace will be painful for both sides. I sincerely hope it is acheived, because it will be the lesser pain.

The only trouble with the above is having to eat it after it is out of the mouth! That's why so far, we have heard only tentative trial balloons. Most of Israel has swung to the extreme right, no land, keep it all, and grab more.

I don't know if this is mendacity, delusion or projection on your part, but here on planet earth the Israelis are overwhelmingly (>70%) in favor of making a deal that will rid them of the territories so long as they get peace and don't create a terrorist state on their border.

THEY DON'T WANT TO GOVERN THE PALESTINIANS. They have been desperate to find some way of letting the palestinians govern themselves peacefully (there's the rub). The Israelis are sick and tired of shouldering the responsibility and getting nothing but grief and death for it (even though, under their governance, the Palestinians became more healthy, prosperous and better educated than any other general population in the entire Arab world).

Not only will the Israelis not "grab" the territories (excepting a unilaterally drawn buffer zone and bordering settlements if the Palestinians continue refusing to negotiate peacefully) but, I predicate, they will never even reinstate pre-Oslo style full military governance, no matter how bad things become. Actually, this is unfortunate for the Palestinians, who suffer more under their Arab "leaders" than they ever did under Israel.

Just reporting what most all the polls have found lately, that very few Israelis are in favor of a Palestinian state any more. So all the screwy, hopscotch plans (which won't fly with the Palestinians) for a State in the West Bank are out the window as far as most Israelis are concerned.
