Jake Tapper, who used to write for Salon, and I remember from covering the campaign in 2000, now shows up in the Weekly Standard with this excellent article.
How interesting. I wonder if Mr. Tapper has reconsidered some of his opinions.

I know. I did a double take when I saw the author's name.

BTTT! Yup, Tapper may be changing his former opinions from the Salon-salad days...at least we can always hope he has, and this article is definitely a good start. I was listening a couple weeks ago to an NPR [the enemy network] do an report on how Iraqi's feel about the impending war and the journalist who went on location in Jordan to interview refugees was blown away by how supportive of the U.S. they were...and admitted that he had a specific agenda story in mind when he started his interviews. But the stories of Saddams atrocities was so pervasive and heinous, by the end of the interviews, he pulled away from his agenda, and just told their stories without much of his varnish at all.... Maybe there is hope that even the RATS can be redeemed.

Very interesting. I think there are probably some ethical journalists who just float along with the party line and then suddenly, when confronted by reality, wake up - and Tapper may be one of them.
As for Hassaine, I'm always impressed by people like him who take on a totalitarian regime - be it Communism or Islam - and pit themselves against it. A good and informative article, thanks, pokey.

In 1999, the Special Branch asked Hassaine to infiltrate London's now-notorious Finsbury Park mosque, whose imam Abu Hamza preached jihad to the likes of shoebomber Richard Reid. Hassaine was already familiar with Hamza and his ally Abu Qatada--both of them among the top GIA supporters in London. He held them responsible, in no small way, for what had happened in Algeria.Abu Hamza. Some insensitive people call him the Captain Hook mullah

Lost both his hands, was blinded in one eye, and now what does he do? Preaches hate, 24/7.

Why in the HELL is Hamza still walking and preaching freely in London?
Do the Brits have a death wish? Or has the concept of self defense even been outlawed on a societal basis?
To: xJones
Lost both his hands, was blinded in one eye, and now what does he do? Preaches hate, 24/7. The story Hamza tells everyone -- he lost them fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan.
However, Asst. U.S. Attorney Hamilton recently testified in Federal Court that Hamza lost his hands making a bomb.
Who should we believe?
To: JohnathanRGalt
I always heard the land mine in Afghanistan story, but it certainly wouldn't be surprising if Hamilton was right.
