The Free Republic first quarter '03 FReepathon is now underway!

Our goal for this fundraiser is the same as last quarter: $65,000. We have about $4,000 per month coming in from monthly donors so we will need to raise approx $53,000 to hit the target.

The funds raised through these fundraisers are used to pay our operating costs. Free Republic operates on an approximate $260,000 annual budget (breakdown here) and all funds are provided by donations from FReepers and Lurkers.

Thank you all very much for your continued support.

P.S. We are planning to make FreeRepublic.com email addresses available as a thank you to all who donate at least once per year. This new feature should be ready to go within a few days. We will post a notice and a link for donors to setup their FR email address as soon as it's ready.

Donate to FR and help us keep the lights on for the best political forum on the NET!

The Great Seal of Minnesota

The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota became official in 1861, with the present design legislated in 1983. It depicts a barefoot farmer plowing his field near St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. His axe is driven into a tree trunk, with his rifle and powderhorn nearby. An Indian on horseback rides into the scene ahead of a fiery sunrise. The state motto, "L'Etoile du Nord", or "Star of the North", appears on a banner above the scenery. Around around these images is the outermost ring, which reads "The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota". The bottom of the outer ring contains the date 1858, which is when Minnesota gained statehood.

A Native Minnesotan stuck in the Davi$ Depression BUMP for a good cause.

Howdy and Thanks! The barefoot farmer and the Indian, those were the days. I thought it would be a nice touch to post state seals or something.

What's your neck of the woods? I hear you don;t have much snow left and the ice is probably unsafe, it's been another mild winter.

You're right that we don't have much snow left. We've only had a total of about four inches so far this year and that was all in little tiny trace amounts. Then it's been pretty warm for us in December so we had a brown Christmas.

A trace last night, but that's about it for snow. It's cold enough now, (and has been for about 3 days), the ice fishermen are happy again.

And the snowmobilers are not!

I'm west of Minneapolis about 15-20 miles. The west end of Lake Minnetonka in Mound. Where did you live when you were here?
