Lear Hypocrisy - he drives an SUV!
Plain Talk's ears - Birmingham Dixon radio interview with Lear on 1/9/03 | 1/10/03 | plain talk

Posted on 01/10/2003 8:59:23 AM PST by plain talk

Richard Dixon, local Birmingham talk radio show host, interviewed Norman Lear last night. As has been reported, Mr. Lear contributed to an advertising campaign denouncing SUVs. It was also reported he had built a huge 21 car garage etc. Well it turns out it's even worse than that. Last night Mr. Lear said he was, in fact, driving an SUV. He said he planned to get rid of it in two months or so. When Dixon asked him about this obvious hypocrisy his reply was astounding. He said "I didn't come on this program declaring that I was consistent, did I?" and kind of made light of it.

Arianna Huffington, Lears partner in crime on this was on Hannity 2 days ago. He asked her about her flying on Private Jets, which use massive amounts of fuel, and she replied "They were flying somewhere anyway".

Well, feeling that she had made a fool of herself on Hannity, she called WABC at 6 AM (3AM her time!) to try and get on Curtis & Kuby to take another crack at it. They too asked her about the Private Planes she flys on. Her response this time, (paraphrase) 'I'm loosing frequent flier miles doing that so its a trade off.'

What an idiot!

Also reminds me of the time that Daschle and Gephardt held some press conference regarding SUVs and how horrible they are. They arrived at the press conference in a Chevy Suburban!

Tony Danza was on KRBE 104 radio this morning in Houston. The DJs were asking him if he drove a Hummer, saying that they could picture him in one.

He went on to say that he couldn't drive a Hummer because we each have personal responsibility to give back to the environment, etc., etc.

Of course, the fact (pointed out by one of the DJs after Tony hung up) that his 1967 and 1960 Corvettes and 1960s Porche put out far more pollution than a 2003 Hummer would doesn't enter into his mind at all.

When he "gets rid of" his SUV I'm pretty sure he'll sell it to someone. If he wanted to be responsible (and if SUV's were really bad) he would have it destroyed so nobody would be driving it. After all, he could afford to do that.

Little Miss Green Acres has also been caught in a good bit of hypocrisy on this. How much energy does it take to heat her 11,000 square foot home, and how much to fly those private jets she has traveled in?

What? You can't compare flying a private jet and frequent flier miles. Absurd. Or flying private and commercial at all. I've flown both and the jet fuel by itself ain't cheap.

"No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets"

ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL
BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS

"Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."

I normally try to express myself without resorting to vulgarity, but for this Champion of America's Slouch towards Gomorrah, I can think of only one word to describe him:

Norman Lear is an asshole.

NO, you just have to have hardened seats put in the heads for the valve to seat on. However if you have a high compression motor then you do need an octane boost.

Not really. The lead acted mostly as a lubricant for valves. If you install hardened valve seats and stainless steel valves, you won't have any problems running unleaded.

I have an old 51 Chevy pickup with a 58 235ci straight six in it. Been running unleaded with no additive for over ten years. Still runs fine.

There are lubricants out there that don't contain lead, but do the same job. Also, most of what the older cars really needed was octane because of higher compression levels.

I was thinking the same thing when Ari Emanuel (President of Endeavor, producer of the spots) told Larry Elder that he had gotten rid of his Ferrari. Unless he had it crushed and recycled, didn't he just pass all that gas-guzzling Italian steel on to someone else to terrorize the rest of us? He's an accessory to terrorism (and no doubt, made a bit of cash on the deal as well).

I should clarify. I have not put hardened seats in my 51. The truck has only about 6000 miles on it in 13 years. Have been driving it more lately and am looking to redo the paint and fix a few dings. By the way, with all the new technology on the road today, my 1958 235 with a single barrel carb got me 17 MPG (no overdrive so top speed was 70MPH with the engine sounding like it was gonna throw a rod) on a trip from Tucson, AZ to Nampa, ID in 1993.

Who is more guilty of wasting bandwidth?

The poster of a thread, or those who reply to the thread to point out that they didn't like the thread, thus bumping it back to the top and encouraging more people to read it?

It is not good enough for them to get rid of their gas guzzling cars, they need to send them to the scrap heap. If they sell them, someone else will drive them. So in the spirit of charity, to save mother earth, and promote world peace. Destroy all vehicles not meeting CAFE standards for passenger cars, including limos. They can go to the oscars in a diesel bus. Carpooling would help their images anyway.

• Barbara Streisand has been branded a hypocrite after refusing to turn down her air conditioning despite telling fellow Californians to cut back on electricity during the state's current energy crisis. On her website, the legendary singer implores fellow Californians to turn their thermostats up. However, employees for the 59-year-old diva have claimed she routinely keeps the central air conditioning blasting in her many homes - including her Manhattan penthouse - even when she is thousands of miles away. One unnamed employee told reporters: "She is someone who cannot be hot, not even for a minute. Maybe it's menopause, but she refuses to sweat. She freaks if she walks into a warm room." source

I recently sat next to James Carville for about an hour and a half at a convention dinner where he was speaking.

He was surprisingly less bombastic than he is "on camera" when delivering his wrongheaded opinions, and was overall a pretty nice, fun dude and I enjoyed throwing back a few glasses of the grape with him.

During part of his talk (which included the typical leftist anti-ANWAR, anti-SUV talking points)he said he drove an SUV but feels bad about it and would probably sell it in a few months ("if Mary would let him").

Hypocracy from the left???? Why I'm shocked, SHOCKED that there's gambling in this casino.

I guess with these folks, as long as you feel bad about driving the SUV and hate Bush, you're in compliance.

"don't older cars need a leaded attitive to run properly?"

For years Tetraethyl Lead was added to gasoline to raise octane - it also has the effect of providing lubrication to valve guides and valve seats.

Engines designed for leaded gasoline can be used with unleaded fuel with no ill effect provided engine RPM's are kept low, just poking around the back 40 every now and then, say. Any type of highway use will rapidly erode the valve seats, or can. Most people install hardened valve seats at engine rebuild so as to take unleaded gas.

There are "lead substitutes" available to add to the fuel, but iirc a major auto magazine did a test on the various brands available and came to the conclusion that they are of no benefit unless 4 to 6 bottles are used with every tank.

If drugs support terrorism, and gas supports terrorism, don't our TAXES also support terrorism? The US government gives money to the Pali's and Egypt. We gave money to Iraq, OBL and the taliban. It looks to me like PAYING TAXES SUPPORTS TERRORISM!

For God's sake people, WE HAVE TO STOP PAYING TAXES!
