i got a copy of windows 1.0 (for dos) nib. useful, eh? Indeed! Do you have a COM machine or a trash-80 around? Couple that with a 300 baud modem and we could be rocking :)
To: John Robinson
You're not gonna change anything, are you? You'll still be open tomorrow, won't you? All my friends will still be there, right?
OK, lorrainer. Get a grip. Deep breaths. Look at the cached articles. A Republican is in the White House and we hold the majority in both houses. There, see? It'll be OK...

Well, I hope when some people try to open FR and get some awful "File not found" message, they dig deep into their pockets ....... :-)
P.S. ~~~ thanks for all you do to keep the hamsters happy! God bless you!

For what it's worth, and in case the world is about to come to an end during FR maintenance time, the RFR chat server will be open at:

(How'd they get Carville to play Gollum anyway?)
To: John Robinson
As a sidenote, our comments table is very nearly 4 gigabytes (4,294,967,296 bytes) large
Time to think about data partitioning. Perhaps by aging off really old comments into a seperate table, or maybe by partitioning by forum (i.e. a seperate comments table for each forum). This makes your code messier, but is a common technique used to scale databases that get too large.

Did you know they have solitaire on these things? I used to play freecell all the time. My best was 52 wins in a row, it really blows losing after that and I have been too busy to try again...
To: agitator
Thanks. We need to make sure FReepers do not lose their sanity over the downtime.
