Terrorists gunned down a Special Task Force (STF) constable and critically wounded three others including his fiancee and parents-in-law at village Patta Dhar in Dessa, about 15 kms from Doda town this morning.
In other incidents across Jammu region, five persons including two terrorists and three civilians were killed while the ultras torched a house.
Official reports received here said that two local terrorists, who were later identified as Amzad Bhai and Afag Ahmed forced their entry into the house of Abdul Wahid in Pathri Dhar at 0720 hours this morning and opened firing on the house inmates.
STF constable Zubair Ahmed son of Ghulam Shah R/o Kaskoot Banihal and posted in STF Doda, who had come to Wahids house to meet his fiancee Sajda Begum (Wahids daughter) was killed in the terrorist attack while Sajda Begum and her parents Abdul Wahid and Nazira Begum were seriously injured.
Both the terrorists escaped after the firing. Police parties rushed to the house and shifted the injured to district hospital in Doda. Body of the STF constable was sent to his house after post-mortem in the hospital. He was posted in Doda and had gone to meet his fiancee after completing his duty.
According to the reports, Zubair Ahmed was instrumental in a series of successful operations against the terrorists in Doda. In view of this, he was on hit list of the ultras and was being followed by them.
Meanwhile, two civilians were killed late last night in the exchange of firing between a group of terrorists and security personnel at village Bhala Gharat under Surankote police stations jurisdiction.
Reports said the civilians were hit by the bullets in a field in the cross-firing and got killed. They have been identified as Mazam Din son of Kala and Nasir son of Nazir Ahmed R/o Potha. As security forces tried to save the civilians, the terrorists, who numbered between five to six, managed to escape.
In the morning, people protested against the civilian killings but they were pacified by the local officers of security forces, police and civil administration. Authorities also agreed to provide ex-gratia to kins of the victims.
Security forces launched a search operation in Bhala Gharat forests this morning to trace the terrorists, who managed to escape during exchange of gun-battle. However, the terrorists remained untraced, the reports said.
Another civilian Mazhar Ali son of Gulzar, a resident of Turki Mohalla, Seeldhar in Mahore tehsil in Udhampur district, who had been kidnapped by the terrorists two days back alongwith another civilian Akhtar Ali, was found dead in a forest today.
Mazhar Alis bullet-riddled body was spotted by the civilians and recovered by the police. It was handed over to his family after post-mortem. Mazhars associate Akhtar Alis body was found in the forests yesterday.
Reasons behind their killing couldnt be ascertained immediately.
A terrorist was eliminated by the security personnel at village Chatyari in Chingus area of Rajouri district this evening. Identity of the slain terrorist couldnt be ascertained immediately but he was believed to be a foreign mercenary.
One AK rifle with ammunition were recovered from him, the reports said.
Another ultra was eliminated by the troops at village Bernali in Mahore tehsil today. He has been identified as Abdul Majid. Reports said the ultra had taken shelter in the house of Fatima.
One AK-47 rifle, three AK magazines, 70 rounds, one radio set, one hand grenade, a binocular and an IED were recovered from the scene of encounter. Troops didnt suffer any casualties in the operation.
Terrorists set ablaze a house of Ghulam Mohd son of Ali Akbar at Byatyali in Basantgarh area of Udhampur last night. Ghulam Mohd was working as a SPO in Srar police post.

The terrorists name was Afag.
A little slow on the uptake. Perhaps they are French inspectors from the Cathedral near bombing case (of the not-quite-a-bomb-so-there's-nothing-to-worry-about school) or FBI agents belonging to the school of the isolated incident.
