THE REPORTER COVERING THE EVENT SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF: "And we shouldn't leave out the fact that a counterprotest was held this morning at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, where activists gathered to show their support for President Bush and possible military action." A clip was then shown of a man wearing a Vietnam-era USMC combat helmet, stating that while he did not WANT war, he felt military action was the only way to combat past and future attacks on America. A man in the background held up a bumper sticker saying "Blood for Oil." There was no mention of the FreeRepublic.com or MOVEOUT! organizations being the organizers of the antiantiwar event.

hno thanks for posting this great photo of a POed marine. As I was corrected years ago by a friend and a marine, there are no former Marines. Once a Marine, they are all ways Marines!

Just a nitpick - - there really are no "former" Marines, except that small handful which has gone on to somehow disgrace their uniform and their country.

Norm, here is an excellent artilce by Lance Corporal Joel Kernodle:

Joel Kernodle's 'Call To Arms'

Joel Kernodle, spokesman for MOVEOUT! (Marines and Other Veterans Engaging Un-American Traitors) sent this announcement out to fellow U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam combat veterans. Kernodle, who served in Vietnam in 1967as a marine lance corporal, said anti-war protestors have taken excerpts from his memo " out of context" in order to defame and attack his organization's mission.

HEAR YE!!! HEAR YE!!! A CALL TO ARMS!!!

"Uncle Sam Wants YOU" is something most of us remember. Many of us answered the call. There are literally millions upon millions of living war veterans who selflessly defended freedom and America and our families and fellow countrymen.

Over thirty years ago, the defenders of a free world fought a new kind of war. It was a war without a front, a war without a demonstrable support for it's heroic fighters, but with a ferocious enemy back home capturing the media, college campuses, the entertainment industry, many of our own elected representatives, and the attention of the leaders of a militarily soundly defeated North Vietnamese Army and it's communist allies, to whom said enemy back home, the radical left, gave aid and abetment to.

All of the veterans of that conflict remember the vitriolic "welcome home," and the discrimination against them, and the name-calling and vile shunning from much of the very people they fought so bravely for.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

United States Marine Corps combat veterans of the Vietnam War have initiated an offensive; a war, if you will, against the stance and arrogance of the leftist radical movement. These vile traitors, sympathetic to the enemies of this nation have again, after thirty years, risen their ugly heads, Phoenix-like, to aid and abet our enemies. As before, they are demonstrating, trying to present, with the help of the liberal media, a false impression to the citizens and politicians of America, and the world, of a popular opposition to the United States defending itself and waging war upon those bent upon it's destruction.

This is YOUR finest hour. Uncle Sam NEEDS you. Your "arms" are your willingness to help show the world the radical left is not going to be given the sole position of presenting the only voice of the will and wishes of our people; a false and noisy minority is all they are and ever have been.

Your "call" is to plan to join up with these Marines, and other patriotic Americans, and proceed to Washington, D.C. to be a needed member of our Righteous Demonstration against that of the leftist anti-war protestors. Noted media representative of the right have been notified we will be there to present and voice what we believe is still the position of the vast majority of Americans.

Time is very short. You may have to make a sacrifice of your time, travel expense, and the comfort of your home in front of the television on which you will be seeing the left once again doing their thing. Please, PLEASE, do not allow them to do it unopposed. YOU are needed!!!

The leftist demonstration/march will begin with a gathering on the west side of the White House, and will proceed to the U.S. Navy Yards about four miles to the southeast. You should simply request information, or any questions you may have about anything back to the source of this letter having been e-mailed or sent to you. This letter ... this PLEA for "militia members" in a fight against those bent upon the destruction of our country and way of life ... is being sent to many, many places. The total distribution will be unknown to anyone. Because of that, none of us could know the magnitude of participation.

It IS known, however, that the United States Marine Vietnam combat veteran who wrote this letter, will, if necessary, stand for his nation, our loved ones, our way of life, and THE TRUTH, along with a small band of his brothers, ALONE AGAIN, if necessary but hope not, in Washington D.C., at 0900 at the "Brothers of Nam" statue near The Wall, January 18, 2003.

Semper Fidelis

Joel Charles Kernodle

God bless these beloved PATRIOTS who take a stand out in the cold, despite the taunts and jeers of the leftist scum. Hopefully, the American public will see the so-called "anti-war" demonstrators for what they are - enemies of freedom who hate everything upon which our free republic was founded.

Saw it on Fox just a few minutes ago too. Said the big protest is thinning out now. Looks like its not making a big splash. Pretty dull and lifeless like them. Weren't that many people there. Fox opinion poll said 67% suppport Bush and 23% don't in the U.S. The anti-war protestors are losing the battle. HEH HEH

"Those who hold America in contempt for its lack of refinement (this writer always has held the term "American culture" to be an oxymoron) should think carefully about this conclusion. From their founding on Christmas Day 800 AD, when Charlemagne accepted the crown of the revived Roman Empire, the institutions of the West have been formed in response to external threat. The Holy Roman Empire of the High Middle Ages, Tolkien's conscious model for the Kingdom of Gondor, arose in response to the incursions of Arabs in the south, Vikings in the north, and Magyars in the West. Boorish and gruff as the new American Empire might seem, it is an . . . anti-empire (( link // fr post )) populated by reluctant heroes who want nothing more than to till their fields and mind their homes, much like Tolkien's Hobbits. Under pressure, though, it will respond with a fierceness and cohesion that will surprise its adversaries."

Buses idled with heaters on and protesters occasionally darted inside for a warm spell before rejoining the rally.

My sister-in-law's ex-husband is one of the protesters in DC. Sister in law allowed her 16 year old son to accompany her ex to the protest. This makes me so angry - I have fumed about it all day. Her reasoning is that "he is a minority as he is Hispanic, and minorities should oppose the war", so she let the kid go. How can anyone be so stupid? She's teaching him to have no respect for his president and his country. I have lurked here for years, but I need to vent, so I am posting for the first time.

TexasQ - thank you for being here and thank you for venting.

I don't understand your sister-in-law's thinking: Why should minorities oppose the war? Look at how Saddam Hussein treats minorities and women in his own country.

I work with many retired military people who happen to be minorities (African-American and Hispanic). They love this country, and they speak fondly of the years they spent in the military.
