I thought you Freepers would like to hear a success story....
I work in D.C. as a sub-contractor in a major gov. department, working with some of the most socialist people you could imagine. One of my fellow contractors who is black, holds an MBA and has always voted democratic.
Over many lunchtime bull sessions about politics, through hard work on my part, I have slowly converted him to vote Republican! I even saw him change his party affilation on-line! He had to ask me what the GOP stood for - LOL!
I think what finally got him was this - I made the point over and over again that he went to college, grad school, owns a home, is married, has kids and attends church etc. "It sounds like your personal life is conservative" I interjected, "Why do you live one way and then vote another?"
I think this finally got to him.

Nicely done. Slowly and confidently you made him analyze his life, and learn about the Liberal party. Education is a wonderous thing.

I have found that changing liberals to conservatives is quite easy. My hand count over the last 2 years is about 5 people. The most notable would be my girlfriend. When I met her around the 2000 election she had just voted for Gore. I questioned her reasons and they were the usual abortion stances that so many ignorant younge women hold. When I finally convinced her that it was a right that she was losing that was more important that the act itself, she saw the light.
Now my girlfriend is a die-hard conservative and is deplored by liberals and democrats. We make jokes about her weenie liberal boss all the time.

As I saw in the streets of DC and what I see in life. People think they have to go along with the crowd of easy relationships. I know many in the streets on Saturday were not Communists but they stood with them because of hatred. They all hated George Bush. Satan creates the hatred and they all follow like sheep. It is easier then standing alone and thinking.

I have found that changing liberals to conservatives is quite easy. Yep. As long as people are willing to listen it's easy to do.

Bob Dole didn't convert me, Bill Clinton did. Some folks require gentle nudging, others need to be clobbered over the head.
Either way, they're all welcome.

As you did, the tool I use in opening liberals eyes to the truth and rightness of conservatism, I make personal.
Use personal examples from peoples lives and their situations to show them how the lefts ideas and right ideas affect them in real ways.
I do it with my aunt all the time because it is not only fun, I enjoy embarassing her in front of the family when she makes stupid statements and arguments. She is a big lefty. Totally driven by emotion and symbolism over substance. I will never convert her, but I enjoy showing her up as a hypocrite and politically and economiclly ignorant every chance I get.
Through my regular jabs at her, others in the family have looked at things from a more personal nature and seen the light. Though my aunt never will.

I have found that where I work most are unabashed liberals. I have one young man who has parrotted Dem party lines for year... he is a campaign worker. The other day he told me that I am making him think...
Many of the people who are dyed in the wool dems actually have never heard a cognet arguments against Dum policies. I stay low kew, and questioning...

While calling voters last year I ran across a husband and wife who were two-time Clintoon voters who are still registered Democrats, but love Dubya and voted Republican on 11/5. Their son is a Republican and they were turned off by Clintoon.
Clintoon is the gift that keeps on giving. Had we handled his punishment better, then 1998 would have been the kind of GOP year that history said it should have been. We'd have beaten John Edwards, Russ Feingold, Harry Reid, and Al D'Amato would have won re-election. We'd have also picked up House seats to bring us back to 1995 levels or higher. We'd have done better in 2000, too.
To: mlmr
Some things about liberals I will never understand. Why blacks think it's honorable to demand the standards be lowered to accommodate them....and why white liberals think black people can't achieve with help from whites. This is nothing more than a mutually dependent dance of destruction.
To: austinite
"It sounds like your personal life is conservative." Bingo, that is exactly what Dennis Prager has suggested many times. He suggests that those who vote for RATS but share many of our values "Preach what you practice."
If you have a family, go to church and/or have a deep belief in God, perform individual acts of kindness to help people, think that individuals should be judged by behavior not color, believe ripping babies out of the womb is wrong, think the government takes too much of your money, believe a child killer deserves to be put to death, are not afraid to call evil...evil, and recognize that America, despite it's faults, is and has been far and away the greatest force for good and freedom in the history of this planet ------ you need to vote for the party that shares those values --- the Grand Old Party.

I was speaking to a leftist at the health club on Saturday, who finally admitted that the anti-war movement was really an anti-Bush movement. At first she tried to tell me that the war was all about oil and when I didn't buy her argument, she gave up and admitted the truth.

Because liberals are racists and radical liberals are the most racist. Take it from me...I have four black children and was an avid liberal. How liberals treated and expected my children to be was one of the major factors for me becomeing conservative.

Exactly. Liberals rely on ignorance and emotion. When ANY liberal policy is examined with logic, what it was supposed to do, and how it has failed (miserably), any person with one eye, a grain of sense, and a shred of honesty will be forced to admit that liberalism as a whole is a comlpete and utter sham whose ultimate goal has always been to destroy the U.S., Christianity, and the free market.

I'm amazed by the number of Black people with whom I've conversed with that complain about the same things conservatives complain about: high taxes, crappy education system, etc. that vote Democratic year after year.
The funniest remark I've ever heard was, "I'd really like to vote Republican, but my family would disown me."

The same thing happened to me. I started to see the light in 96 and voted Republican. By 98, I was seeking out Republican thought (Rush specifically) because of Clinton's antics--haven't been the same woman since. I don't know who to thank more--Clinton or Rush.
To: mlmr
Welcome home, where hard work, moving forward, not making excuses, and EXPECTING the most from your children is honored!
A neighbor woman, liberal and a VERY high executive with AT&T was asked by me why she thought that black children couldn't learn unless they sat next to a white child in school............she looked at me with shock and said she never considered such a thought. That's the problem with liberals, they don't think!!!!!
To: austinite
One at a time... Anybody have any information on how many go the other way? In my circle I get the impression that the liberal to conservative switch is almost a one way street.
Does anybody know of a conservative that switched to be a liberal?
If this is truly a one way street, then it is only a matter of time. Do the math.

Many of the people who are dyed in the wool dems actually have never heard a cognet arguments against Dum policies. I stay low kew, and questioningIn my case, I wasn't a dyed in the wool Dem. I was just too ignorant and lazy to find out the truth. It's easy to be a Dem. It's the nice thing to do. It's the lazy thing to do. As a young person, you think you know it all, until you happen upon a conservative with even a modicum of knowledge--and then you realize how your thoughts are based upon nothing. I see this a lot with Dems in my personal life and with regular Dems I see on TV or hear on the radio. It's so easy to tear up their arguments even for an amateur like me.

"I'd really like to vote Republican, but my family would disown me." Tell them that when the curtain closes, nobody knows who they vote for. Maybe they just haven't figured it out yet.

Ditto. Clinton was the last straw, but ideologically I had been a conservative for many years before the switch. I just refused to acknowledge my true political affiliation because I thought I would always be a Democrat. I felt like Reagan did when he said that he didn't leave the Democratic Party, it left him.

I do that with my fiancee. She's a social liberal and a fiscal conservative who has always voted for Dems. At least I got her to vote for a Libertarian in my state's last gubernatorial election. Next time maybe a Republican. I give her a lot of information heh heh. But her daughter is a Democrat who worked for Wellstone's campaign, so it will be a tough task ahead of me.

You know, I never hear about conservatives becoming liberals. In theory, I suppose it could happen. It would be like intellectual evolution in reverse.
To: bankwalker
There is an alternate term for someone who switches from conservative to liberal. I believe the term is 'lobotomy'.

Clintoon is the gift that keeps on giving. Had we handled his punishment better, then 1998 would have been the kind of GOP year that history said it should have been. So true. It could have been the gift that Nixon was for the democrats. He continues to keep giving. Any time a democrat want to pull out a dig, out comes Nixon eventhough only those 40 and over really remember him as a President.
