Western ‘human shields’ head for Iraq this weekend

LONDON: A first wave of mainly Western volunteers will leave here at the weekend on a convoy bound for Iraq to act as “human shields” at key sites and populous areas in case of a US-led war on Baghdad.

“The potential for white Western body parts flying around with the Iraqi ones should make them think again about this imperialist oil war,” organiser Ken Nichols, a former US marine in the 1991 Gulf War, said.

His “We the People” organisation will be sending off a first group of 50 human shields from the mayor's City Hall building here on Saturday, part of a series of departures organisers say will involve hundreds, possibly thousands, of volunteers.

Nichols' planned human shield convoys is one of several such efforts around the world to mobilise activists in Iraq as a deterrent against military strikes on Baghdad.

“We are on the verge of something big,” said volunteer Christiaan Briggs, 26, from New Zealand. He argued that the stream of human shield volunteers was symptomatic of radicalising anti-war opinion around the world.

“People know this is wrong. It is just so blatantly transparent how the US is trying to impose its hegemony.”

“We the People” organisers said the self-financing human shield volunteers had come forward from US, Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Denmark – and Turkey.

The major rallying point for Muslims, however, is in Jordan. There, a campaign led by leftist parties and civic bodies is seeking 100,000 shield volunteers.

Baghdad has welcomed the plans. But volunteers smart at suggestions that means they are handing a propaganda gift to Saddam.–Reuters

Ken Nichols

I saw this dude on Foxnews this morning, his 'talking points' were pure 'DUh.com' and he made Scott Ritter seem cool and reserved.

What a tool.

I havent heard of any Americans going, but I read where a 100 communists from the Romanian Communist Party are taking double decker busses across eastern Europe and the Middle East to become Human Shields in Iraq. As if we didnt have enough targets!

Are you making that up?

This could be a real learning experience for many of these radicals---my experience is most of them have a romantic delusional view from their propaganda, and will be surprised at everyday things in an Arabic country like possible being beaten for how they choose to dress, the way women are treated, etc.

If only there was a way to send them there for a week, bring them out and see if they learned anything.....as it is I don't think they really are going to get many human shields, but rest assured if there is one CNN will use a camera angle that makes it look like a boat load

This could turn out very badly. Saddam will figure out a way to blow up some of these human shields and make it look like America's work. Of course the lefties will believe him, and the anti-war wackos will have an excuse to do some not-so-peaceful protesting. Cities will burn.

Shouldn't we install the "digital angel" product in each of them prior to their being allowed to leave the country? That way, we could home in on the signal and insure that we destroy anything of importance.....Just a thought

The Lefists just don't get it: The sleeping giant is awake as of 9:03 AM on September 11, 2001,

They are about to find out that the much publicized American short attention span is a little longer than they thought. OOOps! (And let them understanding dhat what has come and what will to come be is still is only being a down payment on the wrath of the Americans)

Not only that, but look at this link from the London Observer from November, 2001:
http://www.observer.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4296646,00.html

Add that little chat Mohammed Atta had with Iraqi intelligence agent Ahmed al-Ani, and what do we have here?

Looks to me like Iraq's an accessory to 9/11.

It should be noted that the London Observer gives a slightly different name to the intelligence agent, but the facts show there's an awful lot of coincidences for Iraq to explain away. Yet, they haven't tried to do that.

Perhaps these "human shields" will hold still while they're blindfolded with dangled cigarettes in their mouths...

Can't we provide them with a badge "Official Human Shield" or something that will stand out for laser target designators? That way even a dud will do the job. Squish.
