We don't have much time for the argument that President Bush's Iraq policy is about "blood for oil." But if anyone is looking for reasons to doubt his stated commitment to bring democracy to that country, they need only look at the way his Administration has been handling the Iraqi opposition.

Brings a couple of things to mind:
Not sure what the gamesmanship of it all is, but the spread of democracy and freedom are our "prime directives", IMHO. The liberation of the Middle East, for starters, from the monarchists and despots who oppress their own people.
Secondly, (and flame away if you want), but I also pray for those held hostage in those countries.
