Sorry, that should read: "...the dollar's status as global currency reserve & transaction standard."

My God....Can we just get out of the U.N. Give it time, Bush is letting the UN publicize for itself that it is our enemy.

Foreign investment in the US was halved last year. It'll be halved again this year. That's with us remaining in the United Nations. What is it buying us now?
I submit that the United Nations is a dog organization that would not survive without our donations.
We don't just supply it with direct donations, we also provide the lion's share of economic, humanitarin and other aid that the UN takes credit for. They stamp their organization's name on the products we pay for, then hand them out as if they were the humanitarians.
When it comes time for bloodshed, we're always good to go. We do our jobs and the United Nations turns around and bites us on the rump To hell with that noise.
The United States should handle all humanitarian aid on it's own. It should give the U.N. ninety days to get out of the U.S. The U.S. should dismiss the WTO, the ICC and the United Nations. No longer would we participate in those organizations. All trade would be conducted one on one with world nations.
The U.N. would go belly up within five years, once the rest of the world started understanding where all the freebees were coming from. All those African states that hate our gutts would realize that we were the ones providing food and humanitarian aid. Those little blue hats and helmits would soon disappear. Good ridance.

The currency standard is something that is leaving the U.S. already. Nobody on the planet likes us, and they all want to take us down a notch or two. Whether we remain in the U.N. or not, we're going to lose that to a certain extent. Perhaps it will spur us to end welfare, privatize other government functions, get our house in order, reduce and pay off our debt.

Man..you are right on.....We are a sovereign nation....if we want to trade with you, we will....maybe

Hey France, Germany, Russia & China - All your balls are ours.

Dont get me wrong,
I believe in trading with other countries....but on our terms
I believe in helping othersd that are less fortunate...but on our terms
If we do this, I believe other God fearing countries would do the same. At this point in history though, it may take some time

Well, I don't argue with anything you've said - I simply don't see the administration taking the measures one would expect to prepare for the economic adjustments which would follow. All I said was that it'd be remarkably foolish if they intend to abruptly withdraw from the UN without having implemented any policies toward minimizing the probable economic fallout.

I suggest we get out of the UN, leave NATO to drift into oblivion, and after we invade Iraq make certain that the Iraqui people will never want to do business with France, Germany, Russia or China. Oh yeah, and for good measure make sure the people of the USA won't either.
Germany is on the verge of financial collapse, China might be able to do without our investors, but they certainly can't do without our markets, France is worthless and no need to bother with them anyway, and Russia just blew the best opportunity they ever had.
To: AntiGuv
"The global backlash [from withdrawing from the UN] would be substantial, to say the very least."Nevermind a "global backlash" against the US -- The global cowards should fear an American "backlash" against them.
To: DoughtyOne
"Yep, let's keep playing along with this socialist organization. We've really been winning by doing so."The UN is nothing more than a festering sore that harbors socialist tin pot dictators of third world toilets whose only aim is to extort money from us.
They don't even rate the title paper tiger. Hell, they don't even rate the title paper kitten.

I don't fault you. I'm certainly not the end-all when it comes to foreign policy. Like you I voice my opinion and leave it at that. I appreciate your comments and realize they do have a grain of truth in them. I'm not quite as convinced of the down sides as you, but that's what makes a horse race. Talk to you later.

"The fact of the matter is that the United States economy is not structured to withstand the probable consequences of a withdrawal from the United Nations."The "fact of the matter"?? Are you kidding?
It is everyone else including the Chinese, who are dependant on the stability of a massive and robust American economy and market -- not the other way round.
