What bothers me a lot, is that most peope think of the United Nations for it's public meetings around that horseshoe table. The UN is much more insidious than that. It has it's tenticles deep inside every nation on the planet, with it's policy groups, NGOs, UNICEF and other orgs. I don't have the faintest idea what all they affect, and I probably know more than many people do.
Frankly the possibilities are staggering, the amount of influence they have on our education system, trade, environmental quackery and even things as far removed as religion.
The UN lists religious orgs as violators of human rights because of their stands on Homsexuality and reproductive rights. There isn't a church member in this nation that should desire the UN to be successful.

Sure thing. I have an irritating tendency to post half-formed thoughts at times, thinking everyone can read my mind or something.. ;)

I dont want to sound cheesy...but
sometimes I think about what was going through the minds of:
Soldiers in the Continetal Army at Valley Forge, Cowpens, Yorktown......or
Defending our young country in 1812 when the British BURNED OUR White House......or
Trenches of World War I.......or
Normandy, June 6 , 1944......or
Korea......or
Vietnam (before they were spat on by their own county men).....or
Desert Storm.....
and other conflicts our sons, daughter, fathers, brothers, died for.....
was it for nothing????? What about OUR SOVEREIGNTY????
WAS IT FOR NOTHING???? JUST THINK

A good part of the robustness of the American economy & market is built upon the international dollar standard, and would migrate to euroland if the euro displaced the dollar. I suppose one can argue the point, although Alan Greenspan & John Snow (for starters) probably would not be the one's who would do so...

Calm down Ron, from what I've heard, they want to allow the inspectors more time. Whether or not we think the inspectors NEED more time is irrelevant right now. The US in the position of appearing reasonable while at the same time extracting time committments from the fab four.

The big point that a lot of people are missing is this: America was attacked on 9/11. Almost three thousand people were killed. I have no doubt that Saddam had his hand in this. What do you suppose the reaction would have been if those same airliners ran into the Eiffel Tower or The Brandenburg gate? The French and Germans would scream bloody murder and demand we do something about it.
The hypocricy here is astounding.

Not if some of us don't surrender to the elitist-anti-American Leftists in our own back yard.

The difference is that those nations would have folded by now.....England has been the only country in europe thruogh history that has not folded under tyranny. Maybe if France or Germany had a Winston Churchill, those guys would'nt have had to be liberated from Naziism and Communism

Looks like it will only be Orwell's state of Oceania (Britian, America, Austrialia if I recall) against Iraq.
Can't recall what the other two nations from "1984" was called.

I didnt serve due to knee recontruction(not making excuses), my grandfather was an aviator in the 40's and my little brother did 1993-1997. He was on a frigate patrolling the gulf. That was supposedly "peacetime". He told me stories of bodies, gagged and tied floating in the gulf....soldiers....mostly of British origin. They dont tell us that stuff do they????

I don't think that the inspectors will be granted a single second longer than required for our forces to be 100% in position and ready to begin our assault. The UN is completely irrelevant, although it has served well as a backdrop for our mobilization. The facts that will be uncovered in Iraq post-Saddam will be the undoing of the UN for the US. It will likely be the undoing of the American left as well. (That's why they are bitching so loudly.)

"A good part of the robustness of the American economy & market is built upon the international dollar standard, and would migrate to euroland if the euro displaced the dollar. I suppose one can argue the point..."The USD might, might be displaced temporarily as the standard in a worst case scenario to the Euro.
However, the day the Euro becomes THE international standard for a prolonged period of time is the day 666 by law is stamped upon all our foreheads ;-)
