A month's worth of media hullabaloo over the budding presidential candidacies of Senators Joe Lieberman, John Kerry and John Edwards hasn't put a dent in the popularity of their New York colleague, Sen. Hillary Clinton, who remains the overwhelming choice of party faithful to run for president in 2004.
Thirty-nine percent of Democrats want to see Mrs. Clinton challenge President Bush next year, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll - a full three times the number of those who back runner-up Joe Lieberman.
MSNBC.com said Clinton's popularity among Democrats was so high that she was "crushing" all other contenders.
While Lieberman is currently the frontrunner in most surveys where Clinton's name is excluded, his popular support plummets to a meager 13 percent when she's on the list, the new poll found.
Asked about Clinton's continuing frontrunner status, one Lieberman associate "expressed exasperation" to MSNBC that reporters and pollsters were still paying any attention to her.
"She’s not going to run, and she has said she is not. I don’t know why people don’t take her at her word," the Lieberman insider told the cable channel.
Her word? If Sen. Lieberman is banking on Mrs. Clinton's reputation for truthfulness, he might as well start considering whether he's willing to run as her VP. After all, we're talking about the woman who was nearly indicted for perjury in both the Whitewater and Travelgate probes.
What's more, while Sen. Clinton has emphatically promised to serve out her six year term as New York's Senator, her husband made the same promise to Arkansans in Sept. 1991, pledging that he would be their governor till the end of his term in 1994. Thirteen months later Mr. Clinton was off to the presidential races.
And in more bad news for Sens. Lieberman, Kerry, and Edwards, the NBC/Wall Street Journal survey echoes polls taken last month by Gallup, CNN/Time and Fox News that also found Hillary trouncing the Democratic competition.
The former first lady "has such formidable fund-raising skills and charisma that she could defer a decision and let Gephardt, Kerry and the others bleed each other to death financially in a battle of attrition," notes MSNBC.
Or she could simply wait for a convention draft, a possibility she has pointedly not ruled out.
The NBC/Wall Street Journal poll was based on phone interviews with 1,025 people on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Oh gee...where do we start with that one?! Ha!
One of the more curious things about the polls from last month and now, that include HRC, is that they don't show the results of a head-to-head matchup against W.
Even when such matchups by the other candidates are published.
I find it difficult to believe, cynic that I am, that the pollers did not take the 30 seconds necessary to ask the question. Therefore they are not publicizing the results for some reason?
HRC and W are the top heavyweights and the media is Don King. The media will do everything in it's power to setup the title match.

Don't kid yourself. If she runs,she wins. She will get ALL the black vote,all the Jewish vote,all the traditional Dim vote,most of the senior vote,and a good portion of the soccer mom vote. And all that is BEFORE she puts her machine in gear to destroy Bubba-2.
I think there is a possibility Bubbette! MIGHT pick him for a VP candidate,but only if Colin Powell and McCain turn her down. If he does run as her VP,she will have him whacked after they win because he can't be controlled,and because she could get a lot of political mileage out of "right wing racists murdered the country's first black VP".
And they will do everything within their considerable power they can do to insure she wins.
That would be fantastic. With 50% of women and at least 25% of blacks Condi would win in a landslide. Just think of how many feminazis and race-baiters would be infuriated...
Watch for cannon foder to be sent up against Bush in '04. Someone the Clinton's might fear more in Dim's primaries in '08. Someone like John Kerry, or Edwards.
If Hillary ever becomes President, I might join Babs in exile.
