And why. Why do you believe in that particular quote? How does it affect conservatism? How does it affect our war on Terror? How does it affect 8 years of the previous socialist/communist state we were supposed to embrace?

It just put the reality in such clear terms. It was like it was a challenge directly to the Iraqi people (although I'm not sure how many would actually have the opportunity to hear it), but in an indirect way it stated a powerful truth for the benefit of Americans who just don't get it.

Also, in the frame of reference when he was talking about the way children were tortured in front of their parents and all the horrors committed upon his own people, I don't know about anybody else, but what was running through my mind was the thought of "what if WE had such a tyrant in power" and I thought about our own children and loved ones and how precious each life is and it made me hope that those who are against war at all costs, or worse, against the president no matter what he does, would get a little bit of that vision and realize that peace sometimes comes at a high price and until Saddam is removed, there is no peace for the Iraqi people.

I picked this quote as well. I think there is a lot of wisdom in these words and I think it explains the main difference between the Pubs and the Anti war groups.

To conservatives, freedom and security are worth fighting for. To the Anti's, peace is the primary objective at the expense of freedom and security.

Seriously, I think this president has a true sense of history and an understanding of what it means to be an American. I respect and honor him for that because it is such a contrast from the previous occupant of the White House.

It stood out to me because Bush has demonstrated many times that he does not see the defense of the nation just as a task inherited with the responsibilities of the office of President. He sees it as a personal obligation to the people of the country in return for their selection of him as their president.

These people COULD become a problem if significant numbers of innocent start turning up among them 10, 15, 20, 25 years after having been squirreled away in some hell hole and some sympathetic administration years down the pike starts letting some public sunlight in. Almost all of them are surely the rogues they are claimed to be, but no investigation is perfect and hiding this away from the public however necessitated will make this factor worse when it appears.

Having heard William Bennett's brilliant disassembly of Susan Sarandon's whining tonight, I would have liked Bush to take the Hitler/Saddam paradigm in hand.

The part about how we will be driving hydrogen-powered cars in 16 years which will produce water as energy-residue. Even if you suspend your disbelief enough to accept the premise of energy efficiency on a hydrogen-based system, what are the chances that Exxon, Mobil, BP, et al are going to race to embrace. Exactly.

No, I liked it because it has a kernel of scientific plausibility equivalent to the scientific basis that supports most of the studies and claims bruited about by the enviro-nuts. That is, it sounds good, can be defended with straight faces by scientists who think it can happen (the cold-fusion types) and allows the President to put the greens on the defensive. What are they going to do--attack it as "junk science"? Who has more to lose if the dialogue moves that way?
