Bill Maher, whose long-running and fatally controversial Politically Incorrect was offed in June by ABC, has taken over Miller's 11:30 p.m. Friday time slot on the cable network.

"HBO has ordered up 20 episodes of the yet-to-be-titled Maher project, which launches February 21. According to HBO, the hourlong show, like its predecessor, will "be devoted to news and comedy, allowing Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues." It will air live on the East Coast and be tape-delayed on the West Coast." E!OnLine

Maher will bomb. He's not funny. He will begin whining about U.S. guilt simultaneous with the liberation of Iraq when our troops are under fire.

he's catering to the audience that will most likely pay attention to him. He's not fooling me either.

True, because he is an entertainer. Although I understand your skepticism, I have always been able to listen to Dennis Miller because his perspective has always contained some measurable amount of common sense. Yes, I've disagreed with many of his positions; but he always presents his viewpoint with enough factual information to warrant consideration.

Compared to the blatant blatherings of baseless bile from 99.999% of the liberal media/entertainers, DM's objectivism, although miniscule at times, has reassured me that some are not completely blinded to the truth.

He's starting to sound like Michael Savage.....their humor was similar even before this latest rant on Miller's part.

Always a thinking man's comedian, I think Dennis finally figured out it was the libertarians and conservatives who GOT his jokes. (and appreciated them.)

I'm thinking that its more a function of the fact that its becoming "cool" to be conservative...he's catering to the audience that will most likely pay attention to him. He's not fooling me either.

Dennis Miller has ALWAYS been more conservative than most people think. He's not just putting his finger to the wind here.

I may have to change my mind on him...did not like him before. Even asked ABC to dump him from Monday Night Football but he may be coming around to the good side....

Dennis Miller hit the nail on the head. The are only a few Hollywood performers willing to speak the truth. I applaud him and those strong enough to speak out in support of our President.

I saw Dennis Miller skewer the media in 1992 for mocking Admiral Stockwell after the VP debate. I'm paraphrasing but the gist was: "He was the first man in and the last man out in Vietnam, and the press is chewing him up for the unpardonable sin of not looking good on television. They aren't worthy to carry his jockstrap," or words to that effect. This was in front of an audience of 70,000 at the University of Florida. I wasn't a Perot supporter, but I was surprised and glad to see Stockwell defended in this way, and nobody was saying it's cool to be conservative back then.

I think his time at the XFL have tempered his sensabilities. And he went 10 minutes without a Pliny-the-elder reference!

Jeanine Garafolo is a selfish, bitter, unattractive brat. 3 years ago I met her in LA. She was hosting a comedy nite at a club I worked for. Last year she was in Houston, where I live now. I recognized her in the back seat of the car next to me when the driver stopped to ask me for directions. I had them follow me to the club they were looking for. Upon arrival, she didn't even bother to say thank you, offer to buy me a drink or even aknowledge that we knew some of the same people in LA. Next time I'll know better. Celebrities are petty, nasty people. Even Steven Balwin, who I officed with in LA, and who is from the same town I am, wouldn't take 10 seconds to take a picture with me to send to my mom. Same guy offered me my own HBO special. What a jerk!

Maher, talking with author Dinesh D'Souza on his September 17 show, said: "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."He also added later, "I'd much rather live in a country that can criticize its politicians -- or even its military -- than [in] one that can't."

Maher's then left one of his four guest chairs vacant in honor of conservative commentator Barbara Olson, a frequent guest, who died in the plane that hit the Pentagon.

Sears and Federal Express pulled sponsorships, and several Midwest stations suspended his show indefinitely ( which resulted in leaving his seat vacant!)On Leno that same week,he cowed, was nervous, and apologized profusely.

Sheri Annis, owner of the political consulting group Fourth Estate Strategies and an occasional Maher guest, said Maher called the President an "asshole" when she was on the show and was bleeped.
