Wonder why we have not heard the last voice transmissions during re-entry... maybe there is a radio blackout because of the turbulence of re-entry. I guess we will hear more later...

As soon as one piece falls off of the shuttle, who knows what it was connected to. The comm equipment may have been the first to go, and any patch antennas, etc. would have been the first things to get stripped off. No radio contact seems logical.

Note to all: Many shuttle comms after re-entry are on open air frequencies. There may be stuff out there that people have recorded off of scanners.

I think they said that the last voice contact was in regard to a normal tire-pressure check and then they had a garbled message and static. Still too early to tell but that seems to be whats known now.
