They were going way too fast to eject.
Those videos pretty much say it all - - that shuttle disintegrated at Mach 6. What a terrible shame.

And there was an Isreali on board. You are right, they will spin this hard.

Could have been caused by a number of failures: metal fatigue, APU failure while spooling up, loss of tiles, structural failure, etc. Telemetry will hold the key if the FDRs were destroyed.

And the Israeli piloted one of the F-16s that took out Saddam's Osirak nuclear facility in 1981.

Time for the rumors to start. Someone will claim they found a Star Of David in the debris next.

I'm in shock. We were just discussing the Challenger disaster at home and it also occurred sometime in late January. I can't believe is has happened again.

"I´m not sure. I hope for them and us that the Arab world will feel sorrow for that tragedy, too."

Not a flippin' chance in the world. The Arab response will be that it is "..a sign from Allah..." against the United States and Israel.

Think about this: The Israeli piloted the plane that attacked Irag, one of the astronaut's name was Cain and it exploded over Palestine, Texas. Believe me, the Muslim radicals will take this as a sign.

As for the "chase planes" the man reported that he saw, he immediately said he first "thought" they were chase planes and then realized it was too high up and too fast for chase planes.

FYI, not that it matters. Nacogdoches is the spelling. In East Texas.

All this "if you find a piece of the debris don't touch it because it may be toxic" stuff is ridiculous.

Nachodoches is the oldest town in Texas. On Hwy 59 and not far from Louisianna. Debris could be spread from Dallas to Florida.

"I'm sitting here shocked and saddened. Prayers for the crew and family...."

. . .feel the same; it is just heartbreaking. . .

Add our prayers for these families and our lost hero Astronauts, and for the rest of America.

Exactly....and for all those who want to engage in speculation and other lunatic theories please have the decency to not do it here...Freepers have to much intelligence and knowledge for such nonsense (it's called frequency error)

It just seems that features of most serious, the saddest one, tragedy.

In any case this does not have neither to stop, neither to slow down the space activities. The conquest of one New Frontier involves unavoidablly of the sacrifices, also human.

In the case then that not features of a misfortune, but of a sabotage (the fact that happens to little weeks from the operation-Iraq and that to edge there was the first Israeli makes to rise some doubt) then the reaction must be TOTAL. To begin from the several one "infiltrates" of house ours and to go down down until the last one: this time does not have any to remain alive neither one !
