That's not the first thread. This is: Space Shuttle Columbia Will Be Visible In San Francisco Area (6AM Pacific). This is the thread where Freepers were watching the descent live and slowly figured out that something was very wrong. We ended up beating the AP by ELEVEN MINUTES on the story, which is absolutely jaw-dropping in the world of journalism.

Thanks for the list. Could you please add:

Officials Eye Columbia's Last Overhaul

This story hasn't gotten much traction on FR, but I think it is important to realize that the leading edges of Columbia's wings were modified somehow at Palmdale two flights back. I am very interested in finding out 1. Why a modification was required, and 2. What exactly was done.

Among the modifications to NASA's oldest shuttle were increased protection from space debris and enhanced heat protection for the leading edges of the wings.

.

The U.S. Space Shuttle Columbia was destroyed during orbital re-rentry on 1 February 2003 ...

because foam (SOFI) from the External Tank (ET) severely damaged the ceramic thermal protection tiles on the orbiter Columbia ... during the launch phase ...

The nation wept and mourned the Columbia's loss ...

Congressional hearings were conducted ... to learn the "truth" about this tragedy could have been avoided ...

The "only" problem was back in 1988 ... an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer ... at the New Orleans Michoud Facility ... collected data from 30 External Tanks that had been built ...

and discovered and then ACCURATELY PREDICTED to Martin-Marietta Aerospace ... and NASA ...

that someday "weak" SOFI foam would fall from an External Tank during a Space Shuttle launch phase ...

DAMAGE the CERMAMIC TILES on the Orbiter's underside ...

resulting in the Orbiter's fiery DESTRUCTION upon re-rentry ...

just like the Space Shuttle Columbia would do 15 years later ...

Of course, some called that Aerospace Mechanical Engineer ... a "hater" ... "deluded" ... and his data analysis a "crock of shit" ...

and of course ... he was duly rewarded by NASA for his warnings by being FIRED in 1988 ...

Certainly that engineer was a man of knowledge, and at least for that moment, exhibiting a glimmer of "courage" ... in the face of professional and career disaster ...

I am he ... Free Republic's "Patton@Baston"

And I stand tonight ... (written in October 2012) unapologetic at my dire warnings about "Myth" Romney ...

knowing ... thjat just as with my accurate warnings about a destroyed Space Shuttle Orbiter ...

I am also quite "correct" in my warings about ...

Myth Romney ("Celestial God-Child from Planet Kolob") ...

In conclusion ... what ultimately destroyed the space shuttle Columbia ?

NASA and Lockheed-Martin Corporate career-climbing "Management Drones" worshiping at the altar of Man-Made Global Warming and other such unscientific nonsense.

These fools forced the substitution of the "original" SOFI material with a "green" alternative on the space shuttle engineers.

The only question is "how many" decent Engineers were blackmailed or forced to falsify data on how the "Green SOFI" wasn't worth a damn.

And what may ultimately destroy the United States Constitutional Republic ?

The "Wanna-Be-Dictator-for-Life" Obama ... and those Republican Party RINOs who prefer invitations to Washington's "best" parties to keep their beautiful wives and mistresses happily entertained ...

while those same Republican RINO sellouts give free-reign to Obama's Godless-Socialist thugs as they burn our beloved Constitution in a back-lot garbage dumpster ...
