Let consumers decide if they want Genuine Lexmark cartridges or Fred and Myrtles Really Cheap Cartridges. If the consumers decide they don't want Genuine Lexmark cartridges, Lexmark says "Don't buy our printers."
Sometimes the off-brand accessories are the best, and letting the government prevent anyone from filling that need is Big Guvmint.
I agree! The gov't shouldn't prevent anyone from filling that need. It's Lexmark who doesn't want consumers to have that choice. If Lexmark resorts to using the law to achieve that end, and we don't like the law, let's change the law.

It's no different than if a manufacturer introduces a new gun that uses proprietary bullets. The buyer need only look at the price of bullets before he buys the gun. If he doesn't like that "business model," he's free to buy a competitor's gun that uses standard bullets. Freedom. What a concept! Not a valid arguement. If I buy a reloader, I find/make/purchase the correct caliber equipment, the gun will still shoot. If the bullets have an ID chip in them that disables my reloaded shells, and I was not informed of this prior to buying it, I have been deceived.
