Price is a factor here. I'm looking for a .45 auto pistol. Your opinions?

Don't skimp. Buy the best .45 you can afford. I would recommend the Sig P220 as the best all-around use, if personal defense is what you intend. No other recommendations. I have two Sigs in 45ACP and they both run flawlessly.

Gotta be a .45? I adore my Smith & Wesson .38.

I hesitate to give opinions on guns to someone with the screen name "Intimidator".
Hit the pawn shops with cash in your pocket. The price on the tag is an initial negotiating position. The shops that I have bought guns at are very careful about legalities and background checks. Those are the places that you want to do business with.
Look for a used Springfield, Colt or Kimber. The Kimber usually get a higher price. The Norinco pistols don't carry a great reputation but they are quite functional (and cheap); just don't expect a target pistol. A blue gun with finish wear will be less expensive than a stainless piece.

The Kimber is, but I didn't know your price range. Also, what I pay here in Connecticut is most likely more then you'll pay anywhere else, including N. Carolina.

Yes. Kimber Custom Classic! Mine eats whatever I feed it and has never given me a problem!

That is what I was thinking... Why a .45? and why a Auto??
Get a 38 revolver... simple, MUCH cheaper... leaves the target in bigger pieces (easier to clean up after)

If you can find one I like the Colt Combat Goverment.
I know they can be a bit expensive but I've had mine a long time with no troubles at all.

Kimber! Or the AMT Hardballer. Or a Springfield. Try them all and see which one fits you best for the money you are willing to part with.

I'm looking for something to carry in the car. I've got a Remington 870 super mag 12 gauge at home. I forgot to mention, I prefer a double action to a single action.

Star PD. Not being manufactured any more but you can pickup a used one in excelent condition for about $250. It's a minni M1911.
