Price is a factor here. I'm looking for a .45 auto pistol. Your opinions?

Colt 1991A1 is good quality and lower end expense. I'll second that, only thing I would change about it is that it is very good quality.

Agree with you on the Ruger P97. Pretty accurate, to boot.

I've got one that's an ace. It's an old Essex model with the straight backstrap. It never jams, shoots to point of aim, and seems to be an ammo slut.
But you can't have it.
I'm also not afraid to recommend ParaOrdnance but they aren't cheap or a budget item. My LDA shoot great and makes believers out of any who try it.

I see some comments regarding the Ruger .45 pistols. They are a great value, but not so hot for concealed carry.

It'll hit what you aim at, you can run over it with a truck, shoot 1000's of rounds, and it won't cost a fortune.

Suggest you look for a used .40 cal Glock. A few police departments are trading these in and so they are 20 years old and pretty cheap. Have a competent gunsmith go over it before you bet your life on it. Some Glocks tend to jam but this can be cured with a tuneup.

Don't skimp on your personal safety. You can buy the best, IMO -- the H & K USP .45 -- for under $800........

My Ruger P-97 has never given me trouble. It's the only semi-auto I own; my other handguns are revolvers
[Off topic]I finally bought a reloader kit. Last weekend the kids helped me reload 500 rounds of .45 and 700 of the .38 that I practice with. I wish I remembered who it was whom suggested this--great advice.

Despite my screen name...
Ruger is an excellent gun for the money. I favor the P90 over the 97. Has never malfunctioned, double-single action function, decocker lever, built like a tank. Not the most concealable because of its sturdy profile, but I carry mine a lot and no one notices. .45ACP is a great round!

Get a 38 revolver... simple, MUCH cheaper... leaves the target in bigger pieces (easier to clean up after) I would rather risk having to re paint and re carpet than hope a mouse gun would do the job..
I use a .45 ACP because I can't do double taps with a .50 AE.

I kinda liked the .44 Colt Walker Dragoon - 1847 vintage. A tad heavy and kindy smoky, but ti got the message accross
(good enough to kill six buffalo).

You say you want double-action? Go to a gun show and try the smooth trigger on the Walther P99. (It's available in .40 SW and will be in .45 ACP soon). It's a sweet handling polymer frame pistol, with Walther quality and three depth choices on handgrip to fit you right. I love mine!

Jericho .45 ACP can be had for 350.00 and it's a good pistol. Never had one jam on me.
Now if it's just .45 Colt I'd tell ya to go with the Ruger Vaquero ....you can turn that into a baby 454 with some heavy loads.
