All of it will also be available on the White House site later today. That's whitehouse.GOV folks, NOT whitehouse.COM

In other news, the French are actively developing new definitions for the word "proof".

"Do we not have a live thread going on our thoughts and opinions?"

So? Do you have a problem with posting the transcript on its own Breaking News thread?

Line forms at the back for applications to take over for JimRob.

The Translation:

Thank you, Mr. President.

Mr. President, Mr. Secretary General, distinguished colleagues, I would like to begin by giving you each a swift kick in the butt. It's very simple. He doesn't care what you say. Never did, never will. We're going in to kick his a$$, and you can either join us and bask in the glow of good press when the details of his tyranny become common knowledge, or skulk into a corner like weasels when when people start asking why you protected him.

Got it?
Thank you.

I seem to recall Bush is going to be giving a prime time speech pretty soon.......does anyone recall this being the case?

Did Powell say what we are going to do next.....like how long we will wait for the U.N. to act?

Powerful information. The world should be very afraid, however .....

A defining message of the speach was early on.

"Iraq has now placed itself in danger of the serious consequences called for in U.N. Resolution 1441. And this body places itself in danger of irrelevance if it allows Iraq to continue to defy its will without responding effectively and immediately.'.

Get the U.S. out of the U.N. and get the U.N. out of the U.S.

I suggest Paris would be a great city to house the U.N.

Agreed. I had hoped for two things to happen:

1. Powell would make a very strong, detailed case covering the Big Four (chem, bio, nuke, terror) in detail.

2. The Security Council would do nothing worth talking about, leading to a "League of Nations II" collapse.

I got request number 1 and then some, and with the Chinese and French resistance I saw earlier today, I may be getting wish number 2.

Why do I get the feeling that he's going to use nerve gas on our troops and we are going to see the first use of nuclear weapons in war for the 21st Century when the US retaliates against military targets.

He won't have the chance. The U.S. will go for a coup de main: thousands of JDAMs hitting his command and control and weapons sites simultaneously while special ops kill Iraqi leaders, air mobile troops secure air fields and armor secures the oil fields. Thereafter, we will mop up with Saddam unable to communicate with his commanders, assuming he survives the first massive air strikes.

This will not be your father's war. If will not be the Gulf War. It will be the first 21st Century war.

The U.N. reports on Feb. 14. That report is expected to echo Powell's and Blix's recent comments. The Brits told us they need until the 1st week of March to have their forces in place. The war will begin in March -- almost certainly the first half of March. We will go for a second UN resolution only if we are assured of an overwhelming win. If the votes are not there, the inspectors will be removed after notification by the U.S. around the end of the month. Bush will announce Iraq is in material breach. A surprise attack may very well follow.

CSpan is repeating Powell at 8:00.EST.

Don't miss it. He was masterful, I thought.

A lot of people have been bashing Colin Powell for a long time. I think he will rank right up there with George C Marshall, another great Soldier and Statesman.

Thanks for the info on the repeat. I will make sure to watch it. I've heard that Powell did a good job presenting all the info. Let's hope that it's enough to convince the naysayers.

Colin Powell

The White House has been regularly receiving the NSA transcripts ever since the inspectors returned to Iraq late last year. The damning nature of some of the transcripts, officials said, explain President Bush’s occasional outbursts of anger at the Iraqis, as well as the willingness by Powell—who had previously cautioned against war—to lay out a damning picture of Iraqi noncompliance in next week’s speech. One official who had dinner with Powell recently said the secretary remarked how “we have a stronger case than many people realize.”
