Here's a guy with a BA, two Master's, and a Doctorate and he's described as a 'former herbalist'.

I love it!

Howard Stern--smartest man? He would disagree with you. He's smarter than he lets on, but he's merely above average in IQ. He is also very funny, and very crude. I went through a phase when I listened to him on the drive into work. The lesbian and fart jokes ARE the giant elephant in the room. I think he would tell you, in all candor and after he made fun of you, that he's just an entertainer and a entrepreneur, giving the people what they want. Not an evil man, but also no intellectual.

Funny isn't it that although he is portrayed as a right wing maniac in this article, he is the most popular talk show host in the Bay Area? Perhaps the reporter is out of step with more of the citizens than he would think.

I don't care much for him either. When Clear Channel bought out the locally owned talk radio station and slowly dropped the local hosts (to be replaced with Clear Channel owned syndicated hosts or out of town talent relocated to Houston) the tone of 950AM went to a bunch of loudmouths with grunge riff bumpers etc. More noise than really issues: Outrage and controversy. Reasoned arguments are still put forth by the original Houston conservative talk show hosts now at 700AM KSEV.

Have to disagree with you on one thing. I think Savage, et al DO believe in what they say with as much conviction as Alan Colmes and James Carville believe that WE here are a bunch of whackjobs that endanger the country. I was in radio for 13 years. Unless you believe in what you're doing, the audience is gonna pick up on the fact that you're a fake real fast and tune you out.

"Is there ANYONE out there who actually brings in guests to talk about relevant issues WITHOUT constantly injecting HIMSELF into the discussion?"

That's why the hosts name is the name of the show. It's about what the host believes in, his views etc. etc. Same thing on the music side of the house too. The good jocks tend to make their show about them and how the music and the audience all relate to it.

Maybe when you do sit through the show abd be a little more tolerent of his blusterous style, you'll hear what he's trying to say. Instead of dismissing him as a blowhard.

"All the man does is say what he's thinking into a microphone, saying nothing if he's thinking nothing, and there's no-one who's even a tenth as compelling to listen to.

I can think of several Morning shows and a couple Scottish bagpipe bands that I'd rather listen to than Stern. But that's just my professional opinion having been in the business for 13 years. But what do I know anyway.

I caught a brief bit of Savage's quoting of this article on the radio tonight (my dad was driving; I would have prefered GG Liddy elsewhere on the dial).

I head Mike read this part:

On U.S. propaganda in World War II, including cartoons mocking Germans and Japanese, and how a similar effort is needed today: "We need racist stereotypes right now of our enemy in order to encourage our warriors to kill the enemy. Liberals are offended that I even ask the question. I should be arrested! Many of you are offended more by me than by Osama bin Laden. . . . Many of you are so twisted in your mind (that) you trust Saddam Hussein more than you trust President Bush. . . . This is what liberalism is. It's Trojan- horse fascism without the jackboots."

For those who haven't seen them, here is North Korea's take on this kind of poster in recent months. Read to the bottom of the thread and there is a slideshow on Yahoo.:

Propaganda Poster From North Korea: (Korean: US imperialists shouldn't carelessly provoke war)

Savage is his own worst enemy. I listen to him frequently has no one is more passionate and incisive about immigration or how America suffers from spiritual sickness. But the next minute he will launch into a rant about something inane like how handicapped parking stickers should be eliminated, for example. He needs some tempering.

In this article, Savage hints that he may be leaving KSFO. I wonder how well he is liked by his co-workers. Not that he should hang with them or anything, but I don't think I've ever heard Morgan and Rodgers even mention his name.
