I am series though. If a bomb goes off in this country...we could book a really nice vacation over there...real cheap. You should have seen the prices post-911. But then again the latest threats are to hotels as well...so maybe we would just be safe in a local Dennys.

Garrison said to "check your pulse." I think it was a medical/ER reference to doctors who have to reassure themselves they are OK. Seriously though, I don't know. It's hard to prepare for an infinite set of possibilities.

I like the way you think. I finally got a treadmill so I could walk off the extra insulation, and then I found out that fat was in style. Time for the Oreos.

Who is Garrison? Is he credible? Where to find more of what he said?

Garrison has a radio show on WIBC 1070. You may remember him as a high profile lawyer. He prosecuted Tyson. I don't know how to find out more. I just heard his show. His source was someone with FOX--I think. He later had Steve Buyer on, who did not contradict him. Buyer said that Congress went over its evacutaion plans this morning. Buyer also said this is the real deal.

If you can't find plastic sheeting in the stores, try using jumbo plastic trash bags.

Or a shower curtain.

Thanks . . . Where's WIBC? Are you in D.C.? Sorry for my ignorance. Just trying to assess the info. If we are really about to go to Red, then all hell is breaking loose.

There have been blackhawks flying over Little Rock the last three times I have been in town.

WIBC is in Indiana. But the congressman and "intelligence source" were in D.C. I pretty much ignored the warnings until they started telling folks to get tape and plastic. Ane this morning Garrison tells us to be ready. I don't put him in the tin foil or reactionary category. If he's concerned, I'm concerned. His message was to be alert, but don't panic.

There was one of those at the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta last October. I've got a picture of my son holding the training Stinger that the two Marines were using for show-and-tell. The CRT sight on the Avenger was pretty cool, they were showing us that as well.

I just thought that was a weird food choice to make, when shopping in a panic during an emergency.

Comfort food for both kids and adults...

"said this is the real deal."

Okay. I can't think of how I can be anymore ready. I don't have the guns sticking out the windows yet. So....

You just reminded me, I haven't seen any Cobra's today. This is the first day in the last three that I haven't.

I'm gonna stock up on Oreos. If the bad guys come this way, I'll blast Streisand music out the windows at them. It'll make their heads explode.

Yes. And my summary of TSA employees:

Orlando - Better to have Micky and Minnie than the clowns they have there.
Miami - Good; an improvement over before.
Tampa - Scarey as hell. Since the TSA take over, 1 person with a firearm got by, one "alleged" explosives incident got by, and several screeners performing groping acts on women which would get your or I 3-5 years in the pokey.
Atlanta - Worse than Tampa. It makes me glad that I rarely have to fly Delta.
Dallas/Ft. Worth - Excellent.
Las Vegas - Excellent.
Cincinnati - Fair, but an improvement over before.
Newark - God help us all.

So yes, I have flown. But the hiring process at some airports reflects the quality of the screeners who somehow got the TSA job after being rent a cops. I have cancelled all of my planned trips since mid January because I'm sick and tired of the rude airline employees (Southwest being the notable exception) and the absurd prices out of Miami on top of it. If you honestly think the TSA is the cure all go for it. But tell me, do you honestly think the TSA is the cure for the problem? All that happened is the liability went from the now bankrupting airlines and over to you and I, the taxpayer. After the next incident, which sadly I think there will be one, we'll all get stuck with the tab. And we'll all remind each other how unionized government employees are not the solution.

""SpazCon1 is reached and the sheeple start panic buying."

I think we have a 'quiet' panic going on already."

We've hit SpazCon1 in the Miami area. I went to an Ace Hardware and a WalMart this morning. Just out of curiousity I checked and sure enough, no more plastic tarps in stock and no duct tape. Either a lot of panic or everyone is painting their homes this weekend.

My experience:

Milwaukee-very good

Memphis- Excellent

Charlotte-excellent

Fort Lauderdale- Extraordinary.

Maybe we have different standards, but we talked to our screeners while they very efficiently screened our bags. They told us a little about their training. I also got some information from another Freeper who is a trainer for TSA and he talked of the standards they used in hiring the employees. He says he no longer posts here because people who know a lot less, but think they know a lot more than he does always get up in his face. I know what he's saying and I don't blame him. There are an awful lot of experts around here.

As for the groping you wrote about. I don't beleive you for one minute. Not even a second. Those people are trained to NOT touch you without permission and without explaining what they are going to do ahead of time. To go outside those lines, with all the people who would witness such an incident would amount to employment suicide. We were very thoroughly screened and NEVER touched. I didn't see anyone being touched on their person, either.

I did not see the actual "groping" in Tampa (nor in Portland about 3 months ago for that matter) as the person was taken into a private room. Needless to say it was a rookie inspector and litigation has been initiated. Most of the inspectors that I had positive conversations with (when they could talk) were ex-military or ex-LEO's. They are concerned however about those airports that took shortcuts and just promoted the same idiots that were rent-a-cops before 9-11. I appreciate the professionalism of those that get it; it's the former rent-a-cops that scare the hell out of me as it's almost impossible to get fired from a .gov job....
