If I was Sen. Frist I'd let this go on as long as they want.

I'm beginning to think that was the plan from the beginning. Think about it, GWB could have sent up any number of contreversial judges, but he sent Estrada first. This is working as a 'wedge issue' for the Pubbies. It may be energizing Libs on the left, but the RATs are starting to see their support among Hispanics (largest minority in the US now) erode. GWB only needs a few percent of the Hispanic vote to 'lock up' the electoral map next year.

I'm beginning to think a whole lot of planning went into sending this nomination up first.

I can't believe Boxer & Feinstein even ganged up on Estrada today - it was a total outrage.

Oh, that is good!

Will give us a chance here in California!

I think the "Stupid Party" title has just been transferred from the GOP to the Rat Party.

Perhaps the self-imposed scales are falling from their eyes.

Has anyone been watching Univision or Telemundo to see how they are covering this story?

This will be a big test for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN), because the Democrats are threatening a filibuster. Frist made a good start by calling the Democrats' bluff. Usually the mere threat of a filibuster is enough to derail a vote. But Frist is challenging the Democrats to go out on the Senate floor, in full view of the C-Span2 cameras, and use this trick to prevent the first Hispanic from sitting on this court.

What a blessed difference from our dearly departed Mr Lott.

The Dems probably figure that even if they do upset a few Hispanics, they can demonize Bush and/or invent some issue tailored to Hispanics that they can use as a campaign theme and get them all back in 2004. Or they may just figure that Hispanics have short memories.

Race/Ethic card is wrong no matter who is playing it
Fact Estrada is Hispanic should not be ballyhooed by the GOP or Rush

BTW Rush was wrong when he said Clinton didn't hispanics in strong positions
Cisneros was head of HUD wasn't he or am I mistaken

Technically, they WERE from all over the country---Texas, NY, CA, and FL. But you know as well as I do Rush never says his program is typical of poll-type samples, so don't be a smart-aleck. It IS a pretty good barometer of what is bugging people.

Don't suppose you remember his show leading up to the 1994 elections, do you?! I do.

Cisneros was also indicted for bribery for paying off a former mistress when mayor of San Antonio.

Clinton also had Federico Pena at Transportation, but moved him after Pena said that ValueJet was safe days after the crash in Florida.

ummm...the Cuban-Americans already had the Dems figured out a long time ago. It is one of the few Hispanic groups, if not the only one, that has always voted overwhelmingly for the Republicans. It voted over 80% for Ronaldus Magnus and Bush 41. It slipped a little in the 96 campaign. But Bush 43 regained the overwhelming Cuban-American vote in 2000 with over 80% in support. Plus, they helped re-elect Jeb and sent 3 Republicans representatives to Washington.

Zell Miller needs to switch parties...We need to organize a slow steady Freep campaign to his office email and voicemail...Asking him if he will rebuke the hard left in his party and become a moderate Republican. america is behind him.

Your comment is both unfortunately typical and nasty of many here at FR. EVERY ONE of the people who called Rush was a registered voter and three of them talked about how they had businesses. One had a business where he made over $100,000 and disliked the Dems' tax policies.

You need to drop your bigoted, "every Hispanic is an illegal" mentality and get with the 21st century. It's no wonder the GOP has had trouble winning over these American citizens who have NO BUSINESS voting Dem.

We have Nelson (NE), Miller, and Breaux-- and that's it.

Supposedly Blanche Lincoln is on the fence. I wouldn't be surprised, considering she's up for re-election in 2004 in a state Bush carried.
