this kind of weather is not really welcome in your kind of work, is it?! NO! it's not. I am still building that Log Cabin and I've been out in the cold all winter. We are finally at the point that we are ready to put the roof on and this comes.
So I'm at home working in my little shop making some furniture to sell on my upcoming website. I need to get out of that building business,my body is gettin to old to keep up with the 20 year olds. So I am launching a new venture, building furniture, bookshelves, etc... I hope to God it goes well. When I get the site done I will change the link in my profile.
That purple cup gives me away everytime, it's like my signature.. LOL!

jw. I absolutely love your "Faith in America" picture. There's something touching about children with the American flag...

my all-time favorite was the Blizzard of '78. I still bore people out here with my war stories of it ;-)
LOL...I also have many "fond" memories about that blizzard...it took us 2 days to dig ourselves out of the house. We were smokers at the time and ran out of cigarettes the first day...We almost killed each other LOL!

Hi Billie
That picture was a photo of the Prairie Chapel School with a bland white sky, so I pasted in a thunderhead picture to liven it up (taken on the same day) and then sepia toned the whole thing. I probably used a couple of other effects, too.

Thanks for those prayers, Nan! I made it home in miraculous time, going by train through the storm basically as it weakened and moved up the North Coast. I *had* to get back to DC, so my boyfriend remained behind with the car in Vermont. My brother drove me from Benn. VT to the Albany Train station at 6:30 A.M., and at 8 a.m. I was on a train to Penn Station. Not soon afterward, the snow started upon us as we travelled into the mouth of the whale.
At Penn Station in New York City, my train connection was of course delayed. I had gotten Business Class seats in the hopes of being treated better in such circumstances, and I boarded the next train to Washington DC and presented my Very Fancy Ticket for a Completely Different Train to the conductor after we were already on board. I figured that given the weather, they'd cut me a break. He kindly asked me if I knew my ticket was for a different train, and I said yes, I did, I so much wanted to get back to Washington early that I'd give up my Business seat and move to Coach if he'd just let me stay on the train. He laughed at my honesty and said I could stay where I was!
Amtrak was basically *really good* today. The conductors were flexible and they had a sense of humor. One told us over the loudspeaker that we should all be patient with Amtrak and each other and told us she could already "feel the love" on the train! It was an adventure. The conductors were scraping ice off of doors and leading passengers to other exit doors because some were iced over. A signal froze outside Baltimore and we had to reverse and go southbound on the northbound tracks for a spell.
As I travelled, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., south from Albany NY to Washington DC, I was the worst of the blizzard as it dissended on NYC. At NYC and points just south, there were big gusts of wind. The snow wasn't evenly distributed -- out of my window I could see snow drifts trying to swallow the hoods of some cars. Visibility was limited -- just before NYC, you could only see a couple hundred yards ahead. From Poughkeepsie down to NYC, you could barely make out the existence of an opposite shoreline on the Hudson, and some times not that.
I watched the traffic on I-95 southbound from the train when I could: it's running very slowly and there are few cars.
Here, in the heart of the city, no one is driving down my street. People are walking. The Metro (subway) is running only on below ground points, and less frequently than usual.
I just got home and fed my cats and such. After checking some email, I think I'll get up and about and visit my neighbors in my condominium association. I feel terrible about abandoning my boyfriend to my relatives in VT, but he's enjoying it: my niece and nephew are playing with him all day, he reports. He says it's a definite blizzard now in Vermont this afternoon and evening. So he'll be trapped for a while yet, God Bless him.
I'm warm and safe and have lots of food and will walk the 6 blocks to work tomorrow and perform a normal day's work -- regardless of the fact that my workplace may be closed. I do still have work to do!

Wow, OK, I'm tired. That would be: "I saw the worst of the blizzard as it descended on NYC." I should add -- the worst of what was left of it. Didn't see it in DC. So happy to be back with my cats and my own comfy bed.

Hey again, Mixer!
Were you able to make your way down to the lake? I know what you mean about it being nice....it's always so quiet after a snowfall. It seems like the snow insulates everything from sound.
Stay warm!

...as dark as the horizon may be, with the storm that is upon us...I know the ship is in good hands, she has a good crew, and our Captain will see us safely through this time.
A rousing "Amen" to that, jwfiv. It is comforting to know that we have a level-headed and moral president as our leader. After watching the America-haters in action this weekend, I am more firmly entrenched in my beliefs that we need to prevent the lefties from having control.
